20% automatic gratuity for large group is insane. They didn’t inform us before seating us and the server wasn’t even aware of this policy when we were paying the bill, resulting in double tipping. We were charged $19 for a drink that was supposed to be $9 during happy hour, so they clearly don’t even know their own happy hour menu. They refunded us the wrong amount in cash. Terrible service.

I came in with a party of 10 during happy hour and did not have a great experience. I ordered a shrimp taco only to discover (after I had bit into it) that the shells were not removed from the shrimp. It was crunchy and unpleasant! Also, they did not inform us that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. It was only after one member of the party pointed it out that the server realized. THEN we discovered that they charged us full price for multiple happy hour drinks. When we asked them to give us a refund, they gave us a couple $20 bills and some change, claiming that they would have to go to the ATM if we wanted smaller bills (for splitting purposes) and refunding the credit cards wasn’t an option. Annoyed and frustrated, we left. We did the math shortly after that and realized that they shorted us!

Came with a party of 10 and told us tips weren’t included so we paid extra tips when they actually charged 20% AND they charged us full price for happy hour drinks (which are supposed to be $9, which is originally $18). Waitress didn’t know that the tips were included automatically in the separate bills. And one of our party members pointed it out. Rather than refunding us, they gave us back cash, but they short changed us. We did the math and we should have gotten back $52.50 for the incorrectly charged tips and the additional 20% tips on top of the automatic 20% gratuity, but we got back $42.50.
On top, the waitress made us yell down the table to order rather than coming over to take our orders and close the physically gap. Not her fault the restaurant was loud but standing there and looking at us not knowing what to do because she can’t hear is not the way either.
TLDR: Double check your bill when splitting bills if in a large group. May be automatically charged 20% gratuity so no need to pay tips on top of that. And double check that happy hour drinks are charged accordingly. Ask for receipts to double check any wrong charges. But food and drinks were fine 7/10. Overall experience 0/10
Do what you will with this information. If you’re gonna go, just make sure you double check what you’re paying. I for one, will not be going back.

Horrible experience, would not recommend. Came as a group of 10 during happy hour. Was charged 20% tip automatically due to huge group (which is fair) but when we paid for the bill, we were told that it did not include tip so we ended up paying double the tips.
Not only that, a few of the drinks were also charged as normal price instead of happy hour price (which was more than double).
This ended up being more than $50 of extra charges for the whole group.
Restaurant offered to refund the extra but ended up short changing us more than $10 with some back of the napkin math.
Server was also very disrespectful and did not even bother to walk around the table for everyone’s order and instead made everyone yell out her order.
Very bad experience overall.

Came here for late night happy hour with 9 friends (10 of us in total). The atmosphere was great, but the service was horrible. We were sitting in a long table and the waiter who took our order stood at one end of the table to take all the orders. It was very loud in the restaurant and she kept saying she couldn't hear us but made no attempt to move closer. I had gotten tacos and asked if the onions were raw. She told me that its cooked, so I didn't ask for them to remove it but when I got the tacos, they were completely raw. Two of the orders also came out wrong. When we paid for the bill, we asked if there was already a gratuity charge and she told us there wasn't so we paid tips. However, one person found out that there was indeed a 20% tip applied so some of us ended up paying 40% tip. The waiter's response after we realized we got overcharged on tips is that she didn't know that tip was included (I.e. she took zero responsibility). We looked into the bill more closely after and found that we were charged regular price for the happy hour drinks we got, which was double the cost. We told them this and they took a long time to calculate how much they had to refund us. When they came back, they gave us 2 $20 bills and some change but we requested to be refunded by each bill since we were all paying separately. They said they are not able to refund back on the cards and said that they would have to run to the atm to get change for each of us. At that point, we were just too frustrated that we got all the receipts and the cash and decided to figure it out at home. When we calculated the amount to figure out how much to etransfer to everyone, we realized that we were given around $10 less than we should have been refunded. The workers are just not equipped or trained to do their job competently, and I absolutely would not recommend going there. It's a shame because the food was decent (other than the raw onions).

The cash did not add up to the added cost they made us pay from the two issues but we had places to be so we just moved on. If we did not address this, they would have scammed us more than $50.
Food was pretty good and atmosphere was OK. Unfortunate that it was such an unpleasant and unprofessional service. Will not be returning to this location and would not recommend.

WOW!!!!!!!!! Walked into Casa Mezcal for the first time this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. It had been highly recommended but completely surpassed all of my expectations! I tried almost every taco on the menu and I still can't decide which was my favourite, every bite was better than the last. Eddy and his staff were super welcoming and friendly and made our night. We already have plans of returning this week and will definitely be making a habit out of visiting. Thank you Casa Mezcal!!!!!
