Great staff. Awesome vibe. This is a place where you go to take your time, enjoy the food, wine and company.
The food was hit and miss. The steak was good, the sushi was mostly good, the crispy one wasn't great. There was a rice dish that tasted so smoky/charred that you couldn't taste any other ingredients.
The service was terrible, I had to ask for soy sauce multiple times, when they did bring it it was barely enough for one person. Waited for more. When they brought out plates they never once brought the correct plate to the correct person.
The design of the bathrooms is comical. It's really dark, which makes me think it's probably dirty. Then when you wash your hands the mirrors are backlit and blind you. Just a terrible idea.

I recently attended an industry wedding planning event at Chotto Matte, and it was an incredible experience! The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine was nothing short of amazing — every dish was a delightful explosion of flavors. The cocktails were equally impressive, refreshing, and expertly crafted.
A special shoutout to Madison, who provided outstanding service throughout the event. She took the time to familiarize us with the venue and shared how my clients could celebrate their milestone events here. Her collaborative spirit and attention to detail make her an exceptional point of contact for any couple planning their wedding.
Leigh, the sommelier, was also fantastic. Her enthusiasm for pairing wines with the dishes added a memorable touch to the evening. It’s clear the team at Chotto Matte is passionate about creating unforgettable experiences. I’d highly recommend this venue for anyone planning a wedding or special event!

Chotto Matte is a peruvian inspired Japanese dining at the heart of Toronto. We really enjoyed their take on Japanese food - from yellow tail ceviche, tuna tataki, toro nigiri to striploin steak. They were superbly prepared and reflect high quality fine dining.
The service we received from Grace and restaurant manager Hassan are some of the best hospitality we encountered in Toronto or anywhere really. We felt welcomed. We will be coming back.

Amazing food and amazing prices
Had a lovely time with my niece and her boyfriend today at Chotto Matte. Service was excellent, hostess Rebecca was particularly helpful, she told me proactively where the bathrooms were (something I was not told about my last time there). Server Sydney was also very nice and helpful. Overall a pleasant experience!

Our first visit to Chotto Matte was an unforgettable sensory experience that began the moment we stepped through the doors. Greeted warmly by the reception staff, we were immediately drawn into the vibrant ambiance—splashes of color, alluring lighting, and mellow DJ beats created an atmosphere that felt both sophisticated and inviting.
Our server, Alice, was exceptional, her knowledge of the menu and genuine enthusiasm enriching our experience. We chose the Nikkei Menu Deluxe ($175 per person, with an optional wine pairing) and were treated to a carefully curated array of dishes: Shishito Peppers, Yellowtail “Nikkei Sashimi,” Toro Nigiri, Dragon Roll, Jumbo Shrimp Tempura, BBQ Huacatay Broccolini, Tentáculos De Pulpo, Black Cod Aji Miso, and Australian Grade 8-9 Wagyu. Each dish was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and executed with precision. The freshness of the ingredients stood out, while each bite offered a delightful complexity that reflected the restaurant’s fusion of Japanese and Peruvian influences.
Alice took the time to describe each dish’s unique elements and frequently checked in to make sure we were enjoying every moment. Her attentiveness, combined with Hassan’s (the General Manager) thoughtful hospitality, made us feel well cared for throughout the meal, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience.
Chotto Matte is a must-visit for anyone looking for a dynamic dining experience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Dakota made our experience unforgettable and makes some of the best cocktails in the city!
Loved the experience, such a dope setting, trendy vibes. This is definitely!
There's having a nice dinner at a restaurant, and then there is a food experience where you sample unique and delicious flavour combinations you have never had before. This was definitely the latter, a fantastic food experience! I don't live in Toronto, but I have been to Chotto Matte twice already. The wait staff are also exceptional. I highly recommend this place!
