The music was louder than the waitress voice so had to ask her to repeat herself many times. Poor management with only two waitresses covering all tables. We were there for a long time waiting and asking for service but were very poor. We had wrong drinks and food and had to wait forever to bring what we ordered, the food came late and didn’t bring us the right orders till the end of our visit. I really didn’t like the food and didn’t eat most of my orders. I will not go back for sure

Came here for an event. Absolutely loved the vibe, drinks and the hospitality. Definitely coming back for their brunch.

Negatives: the food was just ok, nothing special. What I enjoyed the most was the shishito peppers which the portion was really tiny for the price. The worst part of the whole experience happened when I was about to finish my main dish and found three strands of hair in the bottom of my steak plate, not sure if it was one strand and had been cut by my knife while eating the dish, I felt really disgusted. Asked our server about it. Manager came to our table, he said he is sorry and he’ll take 20% off of the main dish’s price, which ultimately came to 17$ discount to my whole bill!!! He said to come back again! I found it extremely disrespectful and inappropriate to what I experienced. I obviously disguised my feelings as it was all about my bestie’s day and did not want to ruin her day. Unfortunately, won’t be back as it did feel like a very cheap way of dealing with this occurrence.
We went for my bestie’s bachelorette party. Positives: The atmosphere is fun, colourful, and the music was great for our occasion. a couple dancers came to our table and that added a fun vibe. The birds (two birds) came to our table with the trainer and we were able to hold them, that alone was a priceless experience! The service of the servers were great, they were nice and friendly. Except for the manager.

A sleek and vibrant fusion spot with a creative menu that blends Japanese and Peruvian influences. The service stood out the most—our server was genuinely kind, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made the experience feel warm and welcoming.

We tried the Fire and Water tasting menu along with the bento box. While the presentation was great and there’s definitely variety, most of the dishes were just okay for both me and my friend—nothing particularly mind-blowing in terms of flavour (though maybe just not our taste). That said, the salmon was a standout and absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed my passion fruit mocktail—super refreshing!

The miso soup was alright, nothing special. Overall, a stylish and cozy spot that’s perfect for catching up with friends or family over a laid-back meal. Worth a visit, especially for the atmosphere and hospitality.

Upscale Peruvian-Japanese Nikkei-style restaurant. The fusion ambiance is unique, however the food is quite regular and pricey for the quality.

Great staff. Awesome vibe. This is a place where you go to take your time, enjoy the food, wine and company.

The food was hit and miss. The steak was good, the sushi was mostly good, the crispy one wasn't great. There was a rice dish that tasted so smoky/charred that you couldn't taste any other ingredients.

The service was terrible, I had to ask for soy sauce multiple times, when they did bring it it was barely enough for one person. Waited for more. When they brought out plates they never once brought the correct plate to the correct person.

The design of the bathrooms is comical. It's really dark, which makes me think it's probably dirty. Then when you wash your hands the mirrors are backlit and blind you. Just a terrible idea.

I recently attended an industry wedding planning event at Chotto Matte, and it was an incredible experience! The fusion of Peruvian and Japanese cuisine was nothing short of amazing — every dish was a delightful explosion of flavors. The cocktails were equally impressive, refreshing, and expertly crafted.

A special shoutout to Madison, who provided outstanding service throughout the event. She took the time to familiarize us with the venue and shared how my clients could celebrate their milestone events here. Her collaborative spirit and attention to detail make her an exceptional point of contact for any couple planning their wedding.

Leigh, the sommelier, was also fantastic. Her enthusiasm for pairing wines with the dishes added a memorable touch to the evening. It’s clear the team at Chotto Matte is passionate about creating unforgettable experiences. I’d highly recommend this venue for anyone planning a wedding or special event!

Chotto Matte is a peruvian inspired Japanese dining at the heart of Toronto. We really enjoyed their take on Japanese food - from yellow tail ceviche, tuna tataki, toro nigiri to striploin steak. They were superbly prepared and reflect high quality fine dining.

The service we received from Grace and restaurant manager Hassan are some of the best hospitality we encountered in Toronto or anywhere really. We felt welcomed. We will be coming back.

Had a lovely time with my niece and her boyfriend today at Chotto Matte. Service was excellent, hostess Rebecca was particularly helpful, she told me proactively where the bathrooms were (something I was not told about my last time there). Server Sydney was also very nice and helpful. Overall a pleasant experience!
