Whenever I’m in Toronto I have to make a stop here. Every bartender I’ve encountered here goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience. This time around, Kyle created an amazing tequila sour for my friends and I, and his hospitality was incredible. One of my favorite bars I’ve been to in all of my travels!

Highly disappointed - I went to Civil Liberties last night (Friday night) for my first time ever with my boyfriend. We had heard about this place via social media and decided to walk in (no reservations).
As we briefly waited inside until walked to our table, the waiting area said “Please wait to be seated. It’s SO worth it, I promise” or something of the sort. I was enticed.
The place was packed, we had to yell to talk to eachother over our tiny table because of the crowd and the music. It was one of many standing tables; no seats. The main tables had seats, but when you just arrive, you’re placed at a standing table until a seat table leaves.
Once we finally were sat down, maybe 10-15 mins after arriving, I was bumped into a couple times by the patrons directly seated behind us. The place is so cramped and loud; I didn’t enjoy that.
Our waitress took our order beforehand, at the standing table. Apparently there’s no menu (therefore no set pricing?); you simply tell her what flavours and things you like, then the bartender creates your own unique cocktail.
The bartender did a great job creating a cocktail of the flavours I asked for - definitely came out great, and timely too. But was it worth the price? Absolutely not. Each drink came to about a little over $20. For that atmosphere and that cocktail? Not worth it.
Music was good, I liked what they played. But again, I don’t like having to yell at the person literally right in front of me.
I wouldn’t come here again - it’s not worth it.

Yaz and Sam are amazing! I’m new to the area but they made me feel right at home. I’m sure I’ll have the pleasure of meeting the other mixologists here, but for the now the service I’ve experienced was incredible. They were both charismatic and personable and the cocktails they made for me were genuinely incredible. Giving them a vague base, they were able to create a cocktail I’d be craving for weeks. Definitely a local place I will be at more often

Highly recommend Civil Liberties! The service and drinks are absolutely top-notch. The staff are amazing at taking your preferences and crafting something fantastic — it’s my go-to spot for cocktails in the city. If you’re sensitive to noise, you may want to bring loops, but the volume is no worse than any other popular lounge or bar.
