Whenever I visit the Distillery District in the cozy months of the year, Cluny's is always my go to spot with their homey feeling amongst the brick walls and their warm staff. It was recently that I visited out of the blue on a Thursday night in summer that I came across how beautiful and plentiful their restaurant can also be in the warmer months. As always, I requested to sit in Anil's section and he was able to point us to all the seasonal specials and even whip us up a few of their summer special drinks. Will continue to keep coming back for more as it is truly a gem in this city.

We had a croque madame and a French dip with frites. Both were ok. The French dip was really a burger with au jus and horseradish sauce. The madame had cold mornay sauce lots of it, but cold. More like a cheese spread than sauce. The place is absolutely beautiful and like a Parisian garden bistro. However the food didn’t live up to the atmosphere. The service was excellent as well. But for the price the food needs to improve. It was empty at dinner time if the food was just a bit better this place would flourish.

We had a pretty terrible experience. Although the ambience was lovely (though a bit loud) and the service was prompt and friendly, the food was atrocious. The french onion soup was sloppily put together and swimming in cheese, fois gras was overcooked to the point of being obliterated. Steak wasn't properly seasoned, ordered medium rare, delivered blue (and cold), roasted onion was old and so tough it was hard to cut with a steak knife. The best part of our meal were the frites, everything else was an absolute disappointment, the errors were so widespread we decided not to complain, skipped desert, and hastily exited.

Overall great experience! More of a 4.5 stars out of 5 than a 4.

I met a friend here for brunch and I will most definitely be coming back. We had both heard great things about the French onion soup, and it did not disappoint. The crab eggs Benedict was delicious, the side salad was so fresh. My personal favourite of the meal was the smoked salmon dish.

Great coffee, beautiful fresh juice, and we had a phenomenal day to be sitting outside for our meal - the patio is gorgeous.

My only complaint was the service, our server was running around quite a bit, not sure what was going on but he wasn’t very present. Very kind though, it’s not that he didn’t care about the table or the service, just a lot seemed to be going on.

If you want to enjoy a nice coffee/drink and feel like you are in a café in Paris then Cluny will give you just that. The place is super charming - we went there on a Sunday morning and there were two artists playing french songs on the violin and the guitar.

The service was top notch - our waitress Jade, was very nice. She made sure we were happy with what we ordered and went to the extent of asking the barista to make me another flat white because I told her it had too much milk for my liking. Thank you Jade - you were the highlight of this experience.

On the food side - we had the croque monsieur- which I thought was good (could have been enhanced with more flavors) and the benedict with the soft shell crab (this one was a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor and quality)

Overall - it’s a pretty nice place - worth checking out.

Because we live in the area, my husband and I gave this place a couple of chances—but both times were disappointing. Customer service is awful. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine, and one of the glasses had soap residue. The wine was full of bubbles, so we asked for a new glass. The server replaced it but with a bad attitude, and we lost one full glass from our bottle—no apology, no compensation, nothing. The food is good, but with service like that, believe me, you won’t want to come back. We certainly won’t.

Recently we went back, and my daughter ordered a kids’ poutine. The container was so hot that she burned her chin, and now, three days later, she still has a mark. We paid the bill and my husband politely told the manager that kids’ meals should not be served this hot, but the manager was rude and aggressive instead of apologizing. This was very disappointing and unsafe.

My wife was a bit reluctant to have lunch at Cluny but I insisted and we were both pleased with the service, food and atmosphere! The omelette was perfection. The lightly deep fried offering of shrimp and cod from fogo island - The Shore Lunch - was scrumptious. The banter with all the waiters (with one who was normally the bartender) was on point, breezy and entertaining. We finished off with Le Petit Four dessert to round out a fantastic meal!

We went to Cluny to celebrate my parents’ 44th wedding anniversary with a group of 7. The setting is still gorgeous and Anthony, our server, was kind. But the food was already a letdown — every single plate of fries was so salty they were almost inedible, and the steak was so tough it was hard to chew. For such a special occasion, this was disheartening.

But what truly left us upset was what happened as we were leaving. I noticed my phone was missing, so three of us immediately went back to our table and started searching everywhere — under the table, chairs, the floor — flashlights out, visibly crawling around for a good 10 minutes. It couldn’t have been more obvious that something was wrong. And yet, not a single staff member came over. Nobody asked if we needed help. Nobody even acknowledged us.

The silence and indifference were worse than the food. It felt like we were completely invisible, like the staff simply didn’t care. For a restaurant with such a reputation, to be ignored in such a vulnerable moment was incredibly disappointing and, honestly, hurtful. What should have been a night of celebration left us feeling neglected and unvalued as customers.

Had a fabulous time! I called ahead to make a reservation for my sister and her husband’s anniversary.

I spoke to Ken and he was great, answering all my questions and making accommodations for my family, since some members have food allergies. The staff were very polite and they added some extra touches to make my sister’s evening special. Ken came over and introduced himself to us which was a lovely plus and was available to accommodate us for any thing else we may have needed.
The atmosphere of course is lovely, inside and out! Very picturesque. And the food was delicious. The only issue was they ran out of the crepe, which is what I really wanted to try but the other desserts were really nice. The strawberry soufflé wasn’t too sweet and tasted like strawberries. I also thought the prices were fair for what we had.

I definitely would go back and suggest the restaurant to others.

Overall, Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie was great, delicious food and a really good vibe. Unfortunately, it took a very long time to get our steaks and one of them came out super cold. We had to ask the waiter to warm it up, which was a bit of a bummer. He offered us a complimentary dessert to make up for it, which was nice.
Our waiter, though friendly, didn’t seem quite up to the standard of the restaurant compared to other servers. For example, when refilling our water, he spilled some on the table and didn’t clean it up, just left it there. Small details like that stood out in an otherwise lovely experience.

I have been a loyal guest at Cluny’s for years, even hosting an event there, but my most recent visit was appalling and has completely changed my view of this restaurant.
I went with my friend (also in her 40s, as am I), her partner, and mine. The evening started poorly when the host asked my friend if she was my mother, an insulting and inappropriate remark.
We ordered appetizers and a couple of bottles of wine while catching up. We were laughing, enjoying ourselves, and preparing to order mains. However, the manager on duty repeatedly circled our table, watching us in a way that felt more like surveillance than hospitality. Then, to our shock, our server informed us that the manager had decided not to take our main course order and that we needed to leave.
When we asked to speak with her directly, she coldly told us we had “drunk too much” and that one of my guests hadn’t had water, as if that justified denying service. We explained that we were about to order food, but she refused to listen. Her attitude was dismissive, condescending, and unprofessional. Another manager I knew, Ken, apologized but admitted he couldn’t intervene because she was “in charge.”
We were not loud, disruptive, or behaving in any way that would warrant being treated like this. Instead of hospitality, we were met with humiliation.
To make matters worse, I reached out to Cluny’s management weeks ago to address this, and despite being told my complaint was forwarded, no one in leadership has ever followed up. That silence speaks volumes about how little customer loyalty and respect seem to matter here.
Cluny’s may look beautiful on the outside, but experiences like this reveal an ugly side to its management. Loyal, respectful guests should not be treated this way.
