I'm a regular here and just wanted to share some thoughts after spending quite a bit of time shopping around 😄 One of the biggest pros is the variety — there are so many options for whatever you're looking for, and the quality is consistently great. for example, milk — tons of choices. From regular milk to all kinds of milk alternatives, with multiple brands too. Compared to other big-name stores, you can pretty much find everything in one place here. Even smaller kitchen essentials like cooking oil, baking ingredients, and supplements are well-stocked with high-quality brands. Prices are also super reasonable and affordable, which is a hugeeee plusss!

Okay so 5 stars for the staff - absolute sweethearts.
I don’t know why but anything edible that comes in a package I buy from here - except the chocosol chocolate - always taste kind of old/stale! Same with the beverages for example, king island coconut water is cheapest here but doesn’t taste the same as healthy planet or whole foods…
I find things significantly cheaper here but it comes with a price of not tasting as fresh 🤔
I may sound a little crazy but I’m super sensitive to these things lol.
I also hope they deal with their sewage or mold issue because the store just stinks at times and I’m sure it’s not safe for those working there!

Extremely rude staff! I overheard the staff speaking negatively about their customers. One of them in particular was heavily complaining and criticizing customers. She specifically said “they have mental health issues. That’s why the come here.” I find this extremely problematic. People who work at a store like this should not have the view that people who shop there are “crazy”! If anything, herbal and natural medicine is something to be admired. I tried to empathize with her because customer service jobs are hard, but she should not be working there in the first place, let alone say this in front of customers. I used to work at a health food store too and I would’ve never said that about my customers. They should hire people who admire natural medicine. That conversation should NOT have happened ESPECIALLY within earshot of other customers! The employee should probably get a different job. It left an extremely bad taste in my mouth, and I left. Take your money elsewhere. I just read some of the other reviews and noticed some other people noticed similar things. I’d recommend Baldwin Naturals or if you can go a little farther I highly recommend Nature’s Emporium by Union Station.

I purchased Attune lions mane mushroom at Essence of Life because I read about the great benefits. I add a teaspoon of the lions mane powder to my coffee or matcha in the morning and it is fantastic. Within an hour you really notice a boost in focus and alertness; it really works! Highly recommend to anyone who has a long work day ahead.
Essence of Life is a family-owned business and is located in Kensington Market amongst a handful of shops. The staff are really knowledgeable. They have a large variety of products (more than most health stores) in the store and you can pretty much find any health food you need. They even have beauty products, frozen foods and rare imported foods that are hard to find anywhere in the city.
