Minimalist and beautiful. Food was exceptional. We will be back! Scallops in potato foam were amazing! Gluten-free options too.

Small but mighty! I was super excited to try this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the octopus, fried batter cod, clay pot rice with preserved duck leg, and cheesecake. The fried batter cod was my favorite—crispy and delicious! The octopus was a close second, packed with great flavor. I wasn’t a fan of the clay pot rice, though. For the price, it wasn’t quite worth it, and I wouldn’t order it again. That said, the experience was fantastic overall. Our waiter was super nice, and the atmosphere felt fancy and inviting. I enjoyed it and would definitely come back!

The cafe is small but it’s clean with simple decor. Food quality and service are excellent in my opinion but factoring in premium pricing in some food item I selected , I think between 4 to 5 stars. In general the food seems light tasted and less salty ?, I can taste the original taste from the ingredients which is my kind of preference.
Grilled octopus is quite good, soft and tasty, and pretty plating, seems reasonable for the asking price.
Clay pot rice with preserved duck leg- I liked it alot and the preserved duck leg is homemade so it’s not salty at all , and the meat is still tender! The 飯焦 at the bottom is crunchy! And we ate half of it and save the other half, they will add dashi (Japanese broth) to soak up the rice to finish it off! Yum … but it’s $48 … $$$. I somewhat expensive but it’s good !
The coffee latte is actually not bad at all, they don’t use the dark roast bean that you get in typical restaurant… my kind of coffee - even better if they use less milk as personal preference.
I think I will visit again !

We had an extraordinary meal at Fish & Loaf with their Thanksgiving set menu, and every dish exceeded our expectations.
We began with the Seafood Chowder, a rich, creamy soup loaded with perfectly cooked seafood. The balance of flavors was spot on—each spoonful was a comforting, savory mix of the ocean’s finest, warming us right up.
Next was the Octopus Quinoa Salad, which was a pleasant surprise. The octopus was tender and juicy, paired wonderfully with the light, nutty texture of the quinoa. The fresh herbs and dressing gave it a refreshing, zesty kick that brightened up the dish.
For the mains, the Grilled Iberico Pork Steak was simply divine. It was cooked to perfection with a slight char on the outside and tender, succulent meat inside. The cabbage and rice complemented the pork beautifully, adding a satisfying crunch and subtle sweetness.
The Grass Fed Prime Ribeye Steak was another highlight—juicy, rich, and flavorful with just the right amount of fat marbling. The demi-glace sauce added a deep, savory richness, and the sautéed vegetables were tender with a slight crisp, adding balance to the dish.
The Grilled Kinkin Fish was a masterpiece of simplicity. The fish had a delicate, flaky texture and a mild, fresh flavor that was enhanced by a light seasoning. Paired with fluffy, perfectly steamed rice, it was pure comfort on a plate.
Finally, we ended with the Souffle Cheesecake, which was the perfect mix of light and creamy. It had a lovely, subtle sweetness and a melt-in-your-mouth texture that made it hard to resist.
The ambiance was warm and cozy, perfect for a Thanksgiving meal, and our waitress was exceptional. She was not only friendly but also very knowledgeable about each dish, and she recommended an excellent Arisawa Sake from Kochi Prefecture, which paired beautifully with our meal.
Fish & Loaf is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food, great service, and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended~~~!!!

Perusing a top restaurants of 2024 list led me here for a date night.
Very minimal decor, open kitchen, and seating in the loft of this humble restaurant in an unassuming yet busy plaza. Server was attentive, asked questions and was generally friendly.
Ordered the scallop chowder to start with grilled octopus and put a clay pot rice order ahead of time, as they recommended. Rich chowder with a good amount of scallops and a delicious chowder in itself. Octopus was very tender and strong in flavor. Zucchini was not my go-to for an accompanying vegetable but still tender and tasty nonetheless.
We ordered the aged oyster w/ wagyu, pork steak as our mains, accompanied with boiled vegetables w/ sesame dressing and pork lard noodles. Vegetables were blanched nicely and went well with the sesame dressing. Broccolini and heirloom carrots were a good side to the pork steak. Full of flavor, tender and tasty with the maple syrup and fried burdock. Mushrooms felt like an afterthought but were still delish!
Star of the show was the aged oyster w/ a slice of wagyu beef and an onsen egg. Super concentrated oyster flavor combined with the richness from the wagyu and the creaminess of the onsen egg. Pork lard noodles were not my favorite but my partner enjoyed them.
Understandable how they made the list, would go out of my way to return again!
Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible as seating is in the loft.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner to celebrate my friend's birthday. We ordered the aji fry and Jumbo shrimps to start. Both were deep fried perfectly without tasting greasy. The shrimps had a fresh shrimpy flavour (not like most frozen shrimps).
The Iberico pork steak was perfectly seasoned and the accompaniments went well with the meat. The 3 lamb chops were again cooked perfectly but the burdock crisps were the star of the dish: crunchy packed with flavour!
The apple crumble was a delight: warm with a nice balance of apples and ice cream.
Will return to try their rice hotpot (ordered by all the other tables). After you finish the rice, they add stock back in to soften the crunchy rice stick at the bottom.
Wheelchair accessibility: There is a long flight of stairs to access the dining area.

Small restaurant where seatings are on the 2nd floor ( no elevator). Servers are very friendly and food quality is good. However a few items were not available that day, and the menu originally doesn't have many options. My favorite dishes are the lamb, fish, vegetables /salad and dessert apple crumble. The black beer is very good as well.

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Scarborough. It has a very unique design. As you set upstairs, you can actually see the chefs preparing the meals in the kitchen blow. We ordered king salmon and dry aged duck confit. Both tasted very delicious, and their truffles fries were also really good. The service was exceptional. Looking forward to visit here again.

Our first visit to Fish and Loaf, on our anniversary, was delightful. The service is friendly, attentive and helpful, and the food is delicious. A curious mix of Japanese and French that works wonderfully, with top quality ingredients.
