Flame Sushi is a stylish and modern restaurant with a well-thought-out design. Almost every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, making for a welcoming experience.

We opted for the Winter Tasting Menu, starting with drinks. The Fiery Mulled Wine made a strong first impression with its dramatic presentation and cinnamon sweetness. The Sunset on the Shore was fruity and refreshing, though we couldn’t quite tell if it contained any alcohol.

Since we weren’t drawn to the Glow options, we chose two extra dishes from the Kindle section. We began with a classic Miso Soup, which was simple and comforting. Next, the Smoked Duck Breast Salad stood out with its fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced smoky saltiness from the duck.

The “PB” Stuffed Bao had beautifully tender pork, complemented by a flavorful sauce. However, the bun itself was on the dry side, and the ratio of bun to filling felt a little off. The Asahi Braised Ox-Tongue had a lovely presentation, though its all-beige appearance could have used a pop of color. As a first-time ox-tongue experience, I found the flavors rich and enjoyable, though the portion was on the smaller side.

The Fish Taco, unfortunately, didn’t quite hit the mark. The presentation was underwhelming, and while I was expecting a unique Japanese-inspired take, it leaned more on the oily side.

By the time we reached the Blaze portion of the menu, we were already quite full. We shared the Deep-Fried Lobster Dragon, which was fresh but could have used a stronger lobster presence. The Salmon Scallop Signature Oshi was the clear favorite—even for a picky eater, it stood out as the better dish.

For dessert, we shared a Blueberry Panna Cotta, which was creamy but a little too sweet for my taste. The Chocolate Truffle and Cheesecake were both enjoyable, though we didn’t end up finishing them.

Overall, we were satisfied with our meal, and the pricing was very reasonable for the experience. We’d definitely come back again!

They have a strict $50 set menu policy where everyone at the table must order it if one person chooses to. This means if someone wants to order something different, the rest of the group can't get the set menu. I don't understand why this isn't optional, so I’m deducting one star for this.

The food quality was good—we ordered a variety of rolls, tacos, sashimi, and salad, and everything was fresh and well-prepared. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly.

We decided to try this place because of their winter tasting set menu and good price. The place is cute, good atmosphere and clean. We had reservations for a Friday, early evening. It definitely got busy as time went on.

We were seated right away. We chose what was on the pre set tasting menu. They were mindful and very cautious of an allery, which was great, and made substitions in place or offered other items. The items chosen were miso soup and seaweed salad, beef and tuna tataki, fish tacos and seafood chowder, deep fried lobster Dragon, and house dessert. We also got the espresso martini drink as it came with the menu.

I had the miso soup, beef tataki, seafood chowder, and lobster roll. The beef tataki was delicious, light, flavourful and refreshing. He seafood chowder was also good, along with crispy potato chips on the side. The espresso drink was yummy. We also ordered a dish on the back of the menu that gave discounted price on certain items. We tried the wagyu 2 roll and we both liked it. My partner enjoyed his tuna tataki and fish tacos.

The fried lobster roll was disappointing as it didn't even seem like there was any lobster meat or if there were, it's very small portions; we both agreed on this. I was also disappointed about the dessert because it was a small shared plate. On the menu it didn't indicate it was shared and we assumed we would get each our own. I wouldn't mind if it was a shared if the the portions were a good size, but they were quite small. These are the reasons why I didnt give it 5 stars.

The server was fantastic, she was pleasant, quick, often checked on us, and refilled the water. The price is good to check the place out and seems like a few choices in the menu. It would be a fun date night out.

Dietary restrictions: They were accommodating in terms of allergies with food.

I had high expectations for Flame Sushi based on their website and the premium quality they seemed to promise. The restaurant itself has a fancy atmosphere, and the menu looked promising, so I decided to place an order for my partner’s birthday.

However, I was extremely disappointed. For the price, the sushi presentation was underwhelming, and the takeout packaging was no better than what you'd find at a Metro or Loblaws. There was so much empty space in the container that by the time I got home, the sushi and rolls were completely ruined. It was frustrating to see such poor attention to detail, especially considering the premium image they try to portray.

Honestly, you’d be better off just grabbing sushi from a random street vendor. At least that way, you know what you're getting. I won’t be ordering from Flame Sushi again—it was a huge letdown, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I normally love coming here but this was my first time having the winter tasting menu and my experience was very different.

I took my bf here for the first time and we ordered the cheese Okonomiyaki which if you do not know what that is, it is supposed to be a savoury fried Japanese pancake with batter and usually shredded cabbage within the pancake. There were no pictures so we just ordered to try it since we thought you can’t go wrong with a pancake.

They served us basically a slice from a whole cabbage? It wasn’t battered or even a pancake. It was like they sliced a cabbage like a cake and put sauce on it. We only had chopsticks so there wasn’t a way to cut the cabbage because the inner part of the cabbage was intact so it didn’t come apart easily. We were shocked since a slice of a whole cabbage does not make sense to be called an Okonomiyaki. We were just so shocked so didn’t know what to say and we didn’t eat it.

I was so sad because I was so excited to show my bf this restaurant since I loved the summer tasting menu.

Long story short, if you are expecting a savoury pancake maybe do not order this? I do love the beef tataki here but this really ruined the entire experience. I just wanted to share in case anyone else wanted to try this dish!

Discovered this place last year while walking along Queen Street and were lured in by the $1 oyster promotion. It’s a buck-a-shuck for a dozen oysters with the purchase of an alcoholic beverage.

We’ve been three times and on the third visit, we finally gave their $50 tasting menu a try. The $50 tasting menu appears to change by season. The current ‘winter’ menu will run until the end of March, which then they’ll release their ‘spring’ menu.

Some of our favourites from the tasting menu and the a la carte menu are the Beef Tataki, the Blaze Seafood Tower, and the Salmon Oshi. And of the three desserts we tried (matcha cheesecake, chocolate squares, blueberry panna cotta), the matcha cheesecake was our favourite.

$50 gets you five courses AND a drink, which is great value, seeing as some of the items are upwards of $25/dish. Our only suggestion is to order as you go, and/or in a sequence/progression that makes sense. We did take our time eating and plates were served one at a time, though almost too efficient one after the other as soon as we were done. Not sure if everything was prepared all at once and just sitting, because our meat dishes (Kingfish Butteryaki and Red Miso Paprika Lamb) weren’t as warm when we got them.

Regardless, we’ll still come back, whether it’s another tasting menu or the regular a la carte menu (both of which we highly recommended!)

Great service. Their buck-a-shuck night was just okay. The PEI oysters were extremely small and tasteless and note that you must order a drink for every 12 oysters. Only their special sauce (which was ok) and Tabasco as an accompaniment.

Acceptable food. It's a buffet. On the other hand, and it's really insulting, they charged $42 for my 5 year old boy. No. I didn't look at the bill. I trusted you.

Mediocre sushi in my opinion, priced well but comparable to the cheap grocery store sushi boxes. Servers were attentive though and atmosphere was nice

The sushi didn’t have much flavor, definitely more on the bland side. I've had better at other spots.

The space is not big but the atmosphere is nice. The service staff are very friendly and the food tastes pretty good. I came here for the brunch combo during my lunch break and the portions are quite sufficient.

I visited Flame last night for their $50 tasting menu, and overall, it was quite disappointing. The sushi was bland and tasted like it wasn’t fresh, possibly frozen. The seafood tower was another letdown, as the quality of the seafood was not up to par.

However, there were a couple of redeeming factors. The fish tacos were enjoyable and the dessert was also a pleasant surprise, offering a nice end to an otherwise underwhelming meal.
