I went there on August 24,2024 with some friends after fan expo. The server got us to the table while we waited for two more friends to show up (5 of us all together). Fran's Restaurant and Bar is a beloved destination for breakfast and brunch, known for its delicious dishes like pancakes with real maple syrup, eggs, sausages, and bacon. This retro-style diner features a diverse menu at reasonable prices, with friendly and fast service that enhances the dining experience. It reflects the charm of a classic diner, celebrating its 85-year history. The environment is clean and well-maintained, though there is a need for improved hygiene and deep cleaning of washroom fabrics and ventilation grills. The menu includes traditional favorites such as meatloaf and liver and onions, alongside satisfying ribs that are expertly cooked, though some guests prefer less sauce. The mashed potatoes can sometimes lack sufficient heat, but the overall quality remains high. Prices are competitive, making it a wonderful value for friends and family gatherings. While it may not be the fanciest place, everything is prepared with care, and customers appreciate the friendly service. Although it no longer operates 24 hours, its 7am opening ensures an early start for a hearty breakfast. Guests often enjoy excellent bottomless coffee, with some noting the small cups can be a bit inconvenient for refills, but the experience is generally positive. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, making Fran's a reliable choice for a satisfying meal, with many considering it one of their favorite breakfast spots in Toronto.
