The first time I had Gerry’s a coworker of kind brought me a slice of black cake and it was the most moist and delicious cake, we decided to go halves and split a cake this year. The cake that I received yesterday tasted different and it was really bitter , I believe there was way too much browning poured into the batter causing the cake to taste bitter I’m disappointed because this is a slice of cake that wanted to share with my family :( . I had no clue that the cakes would be a hit or miss :(
Feel like I wasted my money if I’m being honest as a Jamaican I know how a black cake taste when there’s too much browning added the cake is charcoal black.

Just had an opportunity to look at some of the past complaints.
Past Violations via Public Health that I was able to dig up.
1) June 2025 complaint to Public Health regarding mice.
2) 2023 DineSafe via Public Health Infractions regarding mice and pest.
3) 2018 DineSafe via Public Health Infractions regarding mice and pest.
It would appear that the mice and pest issues at this restaurant are on-going.
DO NOT EAT HERE! Serious health infraction! MICE.

I just came in from taking a walk and as I walked past Gerry's Fast Food Restaurant I witnessed several MICE running around the restaurant.
I also witnessed a garbage bin full of discarded food containers that obviously had signs of food in them. And empty soda cans. Which is essentially a fest for the mice and other pests. That's why restaurant owners are required to throw out the trash at the end of the day and not leave it overnight for the rodents to get at it.
Crumbs left in the Patty Oven. When was the last time that tin foil was ever changed? Because every time I walk past the restaurant at night I always see crumbs left in the patty oven.
Obviously the owner(s) and workers do not clean or empty out the trash or clean out the patty oven. That's why they have mice running around.
Mice running all around the restaurant.
You know what that mean's serious food poisoning that can cause you to become so ill you wind up the hospital!
It really angers me when I see a lack of attention to cleaning, especially in a restaurant when you know you can essentially wind up seriously making people sick.
It's a small restaurant all you need is a good hour each night. THAT'S ALL! And they can't even bother to take out the trash or even clean out the patty oven!
You also require regular visits from Pest Control to keep the mice out and fix any holes that you may find in the walls etc. that's allowing the mice to get in.
And trust me I have eaten at Gerry's Fast Food since 1997! Don't ask people for our support when you give zero efforts in ensuring our safety when eating your food! That's definitely the last time I ever step foot in that place.
There is absolutely zero reason for the unkept restaurant like this. Absolutely no reason at all!
A simple broom, mop, wash clothes, a bottle of fantastic. All it takes is a good hour to clean to ensure there's no mice or pests!
Do better before someone winds up the hospital. You know if you cause people to get food poisoning they can in fact sue in civil court.

Mice droppings on food, it's a health hazard, and you should immediately discard the affected food products and thoroughly clean the area regularly.
Mice can spread diseases like salmonella and hantavirus through their droppings, urine, and saliva, which can contaminate food, leading to serious illnesses if ingested or inhaled.

Have a variety of food to choose from I ordered oxtail and curry goat. I will say the curry goat is pretty tough, but the oxtail is really nice. Good customer service and nice people.

I have heard so much about this restaurant and was very excited to try it. We ordered on uber and had a few issues with our order. You can see from the photos that the products were not delivered as expected. While the messy delivery is an uber issue, I would expect that the restaurant choose containers appropriate for this type of travel. It’s the first time I’ve ever received West Indian food in a clamshell vs a container that can be properly sealed with a lid.
The other issue I have is I upsized this to a large which costed me $26. I expected more than 10 small pieces of goat which you can count in the photo. This is the smallest large I’ve ever seen. It was more rice than anything which ended up dry since a lot of the gravy was in the bag and could not be eaten. The goat flavour was good but overall a very poor experience.
My husband’s jerk pork tasted more like stew and was quite dry. As Caribbean people, we know what to expect from the flavours and this was not it.

Gerry's Fine Foods: A Taste of Jamaica (with a pleasant surprise!)
I recently visited Gerry's Fine Foods, and I have to say, their Jamaican patties are absolutely incredible. The crust is a true standout – light, flaky, and wonderfully buttery, providing the perfect contrast to the flavorful filling. And speaking of the filling, it hits all the right notes with just the right amount of spice, delivering that authentic kick without being overpowering.
My only minor critique, when comparing them to some other local spots, is that the filling does feel a bit less in quantity. However, this is easily overlooked when you consider the overall quality.
What truly surprised me was that I had just returned from a trip to Jamaica, and honestly, Gerry's patties were so much better! Go figure! They truly nail the flavor profile and texture.
Well done, Gerry's Fine Foods! Your patties are a must-try.
