One of our favourite local places! Food, drinks, and service are excellent, and we love the decor. Fave menu items are the crispy cabbage, flank steak skewers, and salmon oshizushi.

perfect place to bring your friends from outside of the city if you want to show off Toronto and go to a more local "nice spot" instead of defaulting to King West or something. our server was extremely sweet and accommodating, food came quickly and tasted great, and the overall atmosphere was super cozy and lively.

Great for a date night. All we wanted was a good meal, nice ambiance and not break the bank. The staff welcomes you in a very friendly way, they make sure that your experience is great. The comes arrives in time, every bite is delicious and when the cheque arrived, I was pleasantly surprised on the total amount, it was worth every penny. Kudos to the service staff, the chefs and anyone else tied to Gonzo! Can't wait for our next visit!

The interior decor and music were great, creating a retro Japanese atmosphere that really stood out.
A lot of thought clearly went into the overall vibe of the space.
However, there were several aspects that left me disappointed.
In terms of food, the skewers were noticeably weaker compared to other Japanese restaurants.
While the side dishes tasted very good, the portions were extremely small, making them difficult to share among friends.
The space itself is quite tight, and with tables and counter seats packed closely together,
moving around the restaurant felt awkward — whether being shown to our seats, going to the restroom, or leaving the restaurant.
Service was another area that could use improvement.
Our server was slow to take our order, communication felt a bit disjointed, and there was no quality check after the food was served.
Overall, the service felt somewhat inexperienced, which was unfortunate.
The atmosphere has a lot of potential, but improvements in both food and service would be needed for a higher rating.

The food was amazing and the staff very friendly. EXCEPT, 2 hours in, we were asked to leave to allow the next party to take the table. First, the 2 hour limit should have been communicated when we sat at the table. But even more importantly, they took an order of food and drinks, brought those to our table and asked us to leave without letting us finish it. If you know you are going to ask us to leave in 15-20 minutes, don't take an $80 order without saying something first. The experience started very well and the ending was totally avoidable.

The food came out out of order, some ordered first, some last, and some left out...
It's been a while since I've been here, and something has changed. The beer is delicious.

Delicious food and a great atmosphere. On the pricy side, but well worth it for a special occasion

We love coming here for the delicious skewers and a few drinks. Last night we got the "sets" which was a convenient way to order the classics - e.g. yakitori, winter menu, etc. Service is attentive and friendly, and food was delicious and comes out quickly. It's usually packed so plan to make a reservation.

This is a very cute establishment. I thought the food and drinks were tasty, however their gf options are NOT safe for celiacs. I unfortunately was very very sick when i got home. Would probably be okay for individuals who chose to be gf, not for those who are gf out of necessity. The bathroom is in the basement and when all the tables are full in general seating you need to squeeze by, which makes it inaccessible for individuals with physical disabilities. The servers and aesthetic are very lovely though!! Would 100% reccomend if you didn't have celiac or mobility concerns.

As a Japanese person, it feels very similar to a local izakaya in Japan.
The vibe and décor clearly show how much attention they’ve paid to the details.
I especially love their selection of sake.
10/10 — highly recommend! 🍶

Incredible food, can't recommend this place enough. The standouts for us were the chicken thighs, chicken oyster, flank steak, pork belly, chicken hearts, the ebi, the gyoza and the salmon oshizushi. Also it's best to let the chef choose the seasoning, it was all on point. Will be back real soon.
