I liked their service and drinks; however, the seating arrangement and furniture could use some improvement.

**UPDATE SUMMER 2025: They no long consistently give the bring your own cup discount đ Hope that changes back- may be looking for a new coffee spot.**
Love this local cafe. Best spot around. It's my go-to because of the great coffee, nice selection of muffins, pastires, and breakfast sandwhiches, environmental awareness (they give a discount for bringing your own mug), and the people working there are always very friendly. Nice atmosphere inside. Highly recommend!

10/10 coffee *consistently* - regardless of who's behind the counter, the coffee always turns up fresh and delicious. The staff are all very friendly. This neighbourhood is blessed with good coffee spots, but Hale stands out for its consistency.

Review for Hale Coffee - Bloor Branch, Toronto
I absolutely love the coffee at Hale â their unique blend, roast level, and the quality of the beans really stand out. But what truly makes this place special isnât just the coffee â itâs the people.
Every visit feels like walking into a cozy, familiar space. The team here is incredibly knowledgeable, humble, and genuinely warm. There's a strong sense of community, and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome â like youâre part of something local and meaningful.
A special shout-out to Janne â your kindness and friendly energy always brighten the day. Places like this are rare, and itâs the people who make it feel like home.

I went today after work and walked in at around 4.20pm. I was acknowledged by an employee who seemed mildly upset we walked in. I checked the closing time and it says 5pm so, since me and my friends were just looking to grab a drink and maybe sit for 15/20 minutes we decided to stay. I assumed the employee must have been just tired. I asked if they served herbal teas and she rudely pointed to a menu on the table. I picked my tea and she rolls her eyes at me right before making the order. She has the same bad attitude while my friends order as well. We sit down (at that point is 4.30pm) and I can see the employee is very upset and after she slams a metal container on a different table I asked her if she has issues with us staying there consuming our beverages. She rudely replies she is âclosing in less than an hourâ. At that point I point at the sign with opening times and tell her âyes, closing time is at 5pm, we will leave before thatâ. She rolls her eyes again and does ABSOLUTELY nothing to at least pretend she is not super pissed about HAVING CUSTOMERS. I worked in hospitality for many years and I am pretty sure that if a cafe states that closes at 5pm, people should be able to sit until before closing times without feeling like they are creating a disservice to the people working there. I donât know if she was having a bad day but the whole experience was HORRIBLE. If they want to be out at 5pm, they should close at 4.30pm to have time to complete closing duties without impacting customer experience. For reference, we left at 4.50pm being mindful of ACTUAL closing time. I am not asking for 5 star service but just someone who is maybe not so OPENLY disappointed by getting customer DURING WORKING HOURS.

I just dropped by Hale coffee for the first time (typically go to a different local cafe but was picking up tahiniâs next door and thought Iâd kill two birds with one stone). I tried to pay with cash, she said I canât give you change so I paid with my card. When I received my order, the colour was VERY light (I order this drink everywhere I go, this is off), w no lid- whatever, no big deal. I asked for a straw, which they donât have. I noticed she had left all the syrup at the bottom, so I asked if she could stir it if thatâs the case. She did it begrudgingly, while stating âjust so you know, there are stir sticks behind youâ. Didnât see them.. but regardless, the drink should have already been stirred. So much attitude in such a short encounter. I feel bad for the owners, these kinds of employees will run your business to the ground! Finally tried the drink, it tasted just how it looked. ended up having to buy another coffee from my regular spot. Needless to say, I will not be coming back.

Just read other reviews and people seem to be complaining about the same things: expensive bland drinks, with bad service. Do the owners not check the reviews? Seems like this is something that should be addressed.

I had an iced matcha latte with almond milk, however the barista was quite rude with her eye rolling while I was talking to my date. And kept coming up to us, saying how long we have until they close. Like we donât see the sign. If you have a problem with ppl handing conversations on a cafe then you have the wrong job. Anyway matcha was great and my date just got a 8 oz brew with almond milk and brown sugar and a butter croissant. Food and drinks were good, just had bad experience with the barista. This was at the Bloor location.

Great drip coffee that's strong enough to handle my preferences - I like some coffee in my Creamer. Vegan & gluten-free muffins that taste amazing. I'll be back. :)
Legendarily slow service

Every time (3-4 times before) I wanted to go there this place is closed⊠Really weird hours for a coffee shop. Closing at 4 is fine, I guess, but opening at 8 is super late. Weekends they are basically closed. Losing out on so much business. Canât get customers if youâre always closed :(
