Great experience here. Karaoke night was amazing and the staff are very welcoming. Book your events here for a great time :)
Cheers to both service and kitchen team that worked on Saturday May 3. They were very patient and gave us top tier service last minute. Thanks to the kitchen team for making us hot and fresh food before the kitchen closed. There was also dancehall and soca music playing which was an amazing surprise
Tried this spot on a whim and didn’t realize it was karaoke night on Thursdays with a live DJ. We still got seated quickly as a party of two. Atmosphere was fun and lively. 90s/2000s throwback pop/R&B.
Service was friendly and drinks/food came quickly. I’m giving two stars because we came here primarily for food, and left feeling underwhelmed by the portions, lack of flavour, and still hungry - despite spending $100+.
We ordered:
- Kamikaze Shooters (these were good, 4 for $24)
- Habanero Kamikaze Karaage (not really spicy)
- Wagyu Beef Tataki Bites (2 small pieces that lacked flavour on a bland garlic chip)
- Negitoro Hand Roll (nice, but on the skinnier side)
- Spicy Salmon Roll (for $15, expected larger maki pieces and more fish. These were basic, mostly cucumber, and would be <$10 elsewhere.)
Come here for the vibes, music, drinks. Don’t recommend if you’re looking for a satisfying meal at a good price.
Giving Hapa Toronto a five star rating for always providing excellent customer service. The atmosphere at the restaurant is one of the best in the city, and the food/drinks are delicious. Thanks Hapa team!
I came here Thursday for karaoke nights . Nice vibes. Cool people .
I came for a birthday party and our table had a great time. The food and drinks were great and the staff made us feel welcomed. This is a great place for a date night, a night out or a fun time. I can't wait to go back.
Portions are small but the service is great
I went a couple of years ago and it was great. This time, we sat in the back where it smelled like a mouldy basement. The service was slow even though it was empty. There were three of us and one person got their food about 15 minutes before the other two. The portions were small and very overpriced. I hope they can turn it around - it's a great location.
The atmosphere of this place was nice with real time DJ. It is an izakaya but they have pretty good food options. Their chicken karage with Japanese spices was classic yet delicious. I really liked the truffle mushroom rice. It was a big portion but I never got bored of finishing whole dish. The combination of crunchy taro chips, chewy mushrooms, and crisp scallions was just amazing. The server was mixing the bowl in front of me. I like that it has a little bit of entertainment at the table.

Food took at least 45-60mins to arrive, and it tastes SO BAD!! We ordered the Aburi Tuna Oshi Sushi and the rice tasted like it was soaked in vinegar and it was soooo sour that we couldn’t eat it. Actually shocked they could give us such inedible food (even though the photo looks good). The shots/drinks tasted like cough syrup. We didn’t even bother complaining cos we wanted to leave ages ago but couldn’t cos everything took so long. Not our first time here but were disgusted and will never come again.
Edit (as I got a response from the owner and want to reply): FYI we did NOT finish the food and we didn’t bother to complain cos 1. the staff knew the food took so long since she gave us complimentary shots as a sorry (and she was very nice and the only think we liked about the place, she can verify this). 2. we were waiting so long that we were wanting to leave ASAP and didn’t want to have an entire conversation (we also didn’t want to sit there for longer for them to remake the food as we rather leave). And another response to the owner (on their point that I only post bad reviews)- my reviews range from 1-5 stars (I have given other restaurants and bars 5 stars before, and I feel like my range is quite balanced) and I only give 1 star to restaurants and places when I feel like I have the responsibility to let others know about my personal bad experience so they can make an informed decision. I rarely write reviews because I’m not paid and I’m not doing this maliciously (as the owner of this restaurant was accusing me of doing in their initial reply to my original comment). If I really was coming from a malicious intent, I would of posted this on my social media as I am a food blogger with a large following (so I actually do know a lot about food as the owner was accusing me that I don’t in their reply). Super long edit but just wanted to reply to the owner’s original super long reply to address some points.

I recommend checking out Hapa for your next happy hour! They have the best half price east coast oysters! Plus some very affordable meals that range from sushi rolls to mac and cheese!
I had the spicy salmon roll, and the Korean style wings (which would be my lunch the next day cause when they say 1lb they mean it!)
Plus because we came on a Wednesday we also got a bottle or wine for half off as well!
The overall atmosphere is very casual, but nice! They had some anime playing, paired with some throwback tunes.
Also shout out to the bartender that gave us free shooters! I definitely will be back!
