the receptionist is not friendly

We had such a great experience at Hattendo on Baldwin Street! This cute little café totally gave us those cozy Japan vibes from the decor to the little details. Everything felt thoughtfully designed.

We got to try their limited edition Sakura Bun and the Matcha Sakura Cake, and both were absolutely delicious, light, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Such a treat!

They even had the traditional Japanese omikuji fortune experience (you shake the wooden cylinder, pull out a stick, and match the number to your fortune). Funny enough, I ended up with a number that had no fortunes left. Just my luck 😅 but it's still a really fun touch!

The staff were super friendly, and we loved sitting at the counter seating by the window. It was the perfect spot to people-watch and take in the vibe as customers came and went.

If you’re looking for a cute, relaxing spot in Toronto that gives you a taste of Japan, we highly recommend checking out Hattendo!

The egg salad sandwich is as close as you're going to get in Toronto to the real thing from Japan. It's so good! They're so fluffy and soft. I love the addition of the egg in the middle.

I also really enjoy the cream buns. My fave is the milk cream, but I like them all. The bread is sweet, and the filling is generous.

Please open a location somewhere between here and Mississauga on the west side. I'd be so happy!

A clean and cozy Japanese style bakery shop. We ordered couples of different bun, I had the cream bun that’s was very delicious, not too sweet and it’s very soft and well chilled. There are two wooden bench right outside the shop and can sit to enjoy the afternoon.

I always love hattendo's cream buns, but the receptionist at this location is quite rude.

they got the most retarded cup design that the drink will keep leaking whenever you try to drink it. their matcha shokupan is very good though

The most inattentive staff I've ever seen.

I thought they got their cream buns right, but this egg salad sandwich is the perfect way to start (or end) your day. Sandwiched between two pillowy slices of bread rests a creamy and savoury egg salad mixed with kewpie mayo, along with a jammy soft-boiled egg that coats your entire mouth, transporting you to egg heaven. You'll never want to leave.

The sesame buns were super creamy and soft. I am not sure if I loved the mochi inside it, it felt kind of out-of-place. The little fortune telling station was fun.

I went to this place, and I wasn’t sure what was more bland, the customer service or the bun we got. We told the staff that it was our first time trying their buns, but he didn’t guide us at all. He didn’t help us choose, nor did he offer to warm them up. When we asked, he simply said they were meant to be eaten cold, but I’ve had them warm elsewhere, and they taste way better that way. The whole experience was disappointing, especially since we chose this place to try something new for my husband’s birthday. The cold attitude of the staff really ruined the moment. As first-time customers, we expected a bit more warmth and helpfulness, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. And with all that experience, I can confidently say—it was super expensive for what we got.

horrible customer service. Clerk was super busy doing I don't know what. Left the cashier after he entered the amount on the credit card machine. Mentioned nothing of the loyalty program. Clerk only came back after he heard the credit machine printing receipt. He told me he couldn't input the loyalty info after payment. When I asked if I could return the items and repay them so I could buy and get loyalty points properly. I got a stare and a heartless sorry. I would've asked him to scan my loyalty code if he were at the cashier the whole time.

I won't need the loyalty points anymore since they just lost my loyalty. I will only go to Hitotoki in the future. Much better prices and more dessert choices.

Update: the chocolate shokupan is just average. The nama chocolate is not well mixed into the dough. You get isolated chocolate chunks here and there. I've had better in Japan and also another Japanese bakery here in Toronto. It could be their style, but not to my liking.

update: time of visit March 9 10:30 am

Great pastries and authentic Japanese flavours.

Love the old Japanese vibes with fortune telling sticks in the lobby. Makes me miss Japan. 🥰😩

Today, I visited the Baldwin location, and the receptionist was extremely unfriendly. He asked about my needs with a blank expression and a poor attitude. I really like this store and visit almost every week, but this male staff member was far less professional compared to previous employees. At checkout, I was told they don’t accept cash because they couldn’t provide change, and I was essentially forced to leave a tip to complete my transaction. Overall, it was a terrible experience, completely unlike the standard I’ve come to expect from Hattendo. I hope this staff member isn’t dealing with any personal issues, and I wish him a pleasant day.

Me and my friends stumble on this place randomly and honestly I’m so happy we did. Jun is the nicest person ever and recommended the blueberry custard bun which was amazing!!! 10/10 would recommend and the original cream custard bun is good also!!

I used to like here but not anymore. On Jan 1st, New Year, my bf and I went there. The drink wasn’t good like before I got. Specially, the girl served us that day, her attitude was really really bad. She didn’t wanna talk or serve us. I won’t come back here again. She ruined my day. And she said “we don’t have the best service”. What a good worker

It was around 3-4pm January 1st
