I stopped in to get a coffee today and my card wouldn’t work which was completely my own fault, the lovely barista told me to take the coffee anyway and I had been having such a rough day up until this point that her kindness made me burst into tears which was pretty tragic😅 great coffee and great staff, there was also a cute dog in there and the whole experience really turned my day around! If someone sees this please buy a stranger a coffee today or tip your barista extra well 🫶

I love to come here, the vibes are perfect for focused work or a pick-me-up takeout cup on the way to something else. I was initially seduced by the latte, which was so creamy and less bitter than most coffee I encounter. After becoming a regular I started to really appreciate the culture of the place, how regulars recognize each other and check in with each other, and especially how efficient and considerate the barista Anisa is—what an amazing memory for people’s orders, and it feels so warm and personal to be remembered.

This is a great cafe with a cozy atmosphere, and absolutely amazing service. The barista is incredible and knows everyone's orders seemingly before they walk in the door. She is very kind and understanding, especially about the problems with the payment terminal (warning: the machine does not take credit cards).
The coffee will knock you back, especially if you like espressos or cortados, as it's quite strong. I suggest cutting it with milk in a latte or cappuccino.
It's a charming little place. My one gripe is that their almond croissants are unfortunately often sold out.

Never too busy to be able to read or work. Seems like there are steady regulars and it was easy to build rapport with the barista

An important member of the Annex neighbourhood, Haute Coffee not only offers excellent coffee, but is also a hub for neighbourhood news. As City Council debates a proposal to allow new retail and service businesses in the heart of Toronto’s neighbourhoods, we need to focus on how to support individual communities.
I’m concerned. The blonde lady that serves coffee is extremely unfriendly. Very deadpan and makes going inside here feel like I’m at the food bank. I don’t take it too personally but if you’re gonna be working in the service industry please consider being nice. This review isn’t based off one interaction but more than a few. It’s been this way every time. You never know what other people are going through and how interactions might affect them. The coffee is also pretty bad , tastes like Tim Hortons. No character in the flavour. That tells me that this coffee shop doesn’t care about their coffee. There’s literally a Tim Hortons in a gas station across the street. Why shouldn’t I go there instead if I want low quality coffee. I’m saying this as someone who is extremely familiar with coffee, even being a roaster myself in a past life. It’s a shame because there’s a lack of great coffee in the area. I am not a coffee snob. I just like food and coffee culture.
I wanna like this place- seems so simple in theory to walk in and walk out with a smile on my face. But we live in a complicated world , and this review could’ve been 5 stars even if the coffee was terrible. Customer service leaves a lasting impression. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way considering the other 1 star reviews.
On the other hand, I’d assume the employee mentioned here is earning minimum wage. And we all know what minimum wage feels like. In this city, it can make you sour. I’d love to cut this lady some slack since we all deserve it at times. But as I see other reviewers saying similar things, then perhaps businesses such as Haute Coffee should be put on notice.
This is just my opinion! Not waving my finger at all. Local businesses deserve support. Coffee shops help sustain communities but I’m not sure this one would.

Although I got a bit confused with the card machine this morning, the waitress was so lovely and kind. I received such a warm welcome there! Plus, the coffee and cookie 🍪 were delicious — I’d 100% recommend this place!

I usually prefer iced coffee, but Haute gits the job done.
We really want to love this place but the lady who serves coffee during the week in the mornings is extremely cold, we feel so unwelcome. It feels like we are a nuisance. We’ve been coming here a few times a week every week but won’t be going back anymore. Two other people have made the same comment so this is not an isolated case.

The lady who was the barista on September 10 at 11:20 AM seemed very unfriendly. She didn’t even smile and didn’t respond when I said goodbye. I have never experienced such behavior from any barista, and I don’t think I will be coming back!

I was there two times. The first time there was an amazing girl who served and really kind. The second time there was another girl a little bit rough and I was disappointed in this. Anyway the cappuccino is terrific!!!!
