My friend has visited this place three times in the past two weeks. She said it’s the best malatang in Toronto, so she took me here. It was really good

The green peppercorn soup was very flavorful, though a bit salty for my personal taste. I was impressed by how fresh all the ingredients and dipping sauces were.
One small suggestion: I would recommend serving the rice with the soup instead of bringing it out at the very beginning. My rice arrived a good 10 minutes before my malatang bowl, so it had already cooled down by the time I was ready to eat.

They have a promo — if you give 5 stars you get a free drink.

Despite this, the food is actually good and they have free ice cream. Didn’t have any but it looked popular. They also have a bar for cold jelly dessert.

For the mains, the price is fair and for 25$ you can get a filling meal. I’d recommend the sesame dry pot seasoning.

So glad I came to Hi Bowl to try malatang for the first time. You grab a big bowl, fill it up with raw ingredients, weigh and pay at the cashier and you'll get an order number and you can find your own seat. You can also make your own sauce dips. They have a wide selection of ingredients that looked fresh, and the signature spicy soup base was quite nice and balanced. You can also make your own ice jelly and get a soft serve ice cream.

The pricing is standard at 39.90 per kg or 3.99 per 100g. The ultimate price is based on your own selection and it's easy to go overboard! Really friendly and attentive service. My server noticed I had a light coloured shirt and got me a bib, and I had my phone in hand when looking at the soft serve so she offered to make it for me.

Update: I went again today and was happy to see big improvements in the points I mentioned before!
Everything was much smoother — from waiting in line to seating and food service.
At the sauce station, the spoons for popular base seasonings like soy sauce and vinegar were larger, which helped reduce crowding.
Thank you so much for reading my feedback. I’ll definitely be back!

The service really needs work. I waited 30 minutes with no sign of my order, and when I asked, they finally brought it out lukewarm. The red chili oil on top had even turned into a film.
Also, the sauce station has gotten inconvenient! The spoons are much smaller than before. With such tiny spoons, it takes forever to mix your sauce, and the station quickly gets crowded.
The taste was good. But honestly, with this kind of operation, I wouldn’t come back.

When the dishes were served, the spoon and chopsticks beside them had clearly been used by someone else. It was extremely disgusting, and I suspect there are food safety concerns.
