It was with great pleasure that I attended the Bill Frisell Trio at Hugh’s Room as part the Toronto Jazz Festival. I often went to their original location but this was my first time at this one and I’ll be back. They host quite a variety of musical styles with an emphasis on local talent. Housed in an old church there isn't a bad seat to be found. It has a very intimate ambiance which brings you much closer to the music. I would choose a less known artist in this venue over a superstar in a stadium any day of the week!!
Great place to see - and especially - hear a live concert!
HR is a venerable part of Toronto's musical landscape, forced a couple of years ago to relocate to the east end of town for financial reasons. It's now housed in a converted church hall with great acoustics, and a kind of diy sensibility. No longer a jazz-style lounge, it's more of a concert venue, but still a great place to see local and national artists laying it down on any given might!...
