! Celiac disease friendly !
So many options/substitutions for celiacs. My husband was able to enjoy a breakfast sandwich with home fries... that looked and tasted great! The pricing was fair and affordable which was also a plus. This will be our go to spot when visiting Toronto.
I liked the chocolate milkshake, burgers & clubs. I did not enjoy the breakfast plates.
I like the restaurant ambiance & aesthetics.
Food is always delicious here - brunch and dinner! Kids menu is great (+ they have cute kid friendly cups, colouring sheets and board games!). 1/2 price spritz on Sundays too!!
Food was mediocre (at best).
Ignore the photos of fluffy stack of pancakes, yours will be flat and average.
$4 for a small cup of drip coffee is a huge rip off. Starbucks is cheaper than that.
Nice vibe and staff. Check it out if you love dive bar vibe with upscale price tag.
Great Celiac friendly brunch restaurant! They really be aware of gluten allergies and a lot of items can be substituted for gluten-free.
I originally wanted to try the spinach dip but they run out of spinach and ordered baked Brie instead, but omg, I think it was the right choice. They gave us tortilla chips instead of baguettes and it was so good. The chicken sandwich was okay. I liked the gluten-free buns they use.
They also sell original r-shirts and cups in the restaurant. The coffee cups were different designs and so cute!!
Came here for brunch and the place itself is very lovely. I’m pretty sure I spotted some board games to play while you’re there which I’m a big fan of 😁 but on this occasion we chose to sit outdoors to enjoy the sunshine ☀️
The food we had wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t bad by any stretch. I had the Shakshouka and the sauce was a little too runny for my liking. I felt it should have been thicker and a little bit spicier.
The drink I had on the other hand was really lovely. I had their special Not Terrys Chocolate Orange 😋 it was so tasty I drank 2 within 5 minutes 😅
Overall I’d say our experience was middle of the park. Not bad, but not amazing either. I would come back again though to try out other items on the menu
So happy that I found this place! Having been recently diagnosed with celiac disease, eating out safely has become a real challenge. It was such a relief to (for the first time since my diagnosis) eat at a restaurant where they truly get it…. and as a bonus the food is fantastic! :)
Patio is super cute! Nice service and main plates looked good. French toast felt more like 3 cinnamon loafs, and “fruit” was one slice of melon so a bit disappointed there.
outstanding bar with stellar service, hardworking staff who do it all. owner is a gem who checks in personally to make sure we're happy - can't wait to come back to Thurs trivia again! 🎉
Always a great meal at hugs and sarcasm. Love a gluten free menu !!!💜

The best burger I’ve had in Toronto. The double packed beef burger was so fresh and amazing!

I was double minded about this place at first but oh boy did they deliver. Their hot and honey chicken sandwich was phenomenal. Everything was perfect. Temperature, flavor, quality of the bun , chicken , ingredients. Simple place, sweet staff, cannot wait to go back and try their brunch menu. Pancakes look amazing!

Disappointing Experience
My partner and I went for breakfast, and while the restaurant was busy and potentially understaffed, we were initially understanding. I’ve been a server for 10 years, so I know how challenging these situations can be.
From the start, the service was very slow, which we didn’t mind given the circumstances. However, when our server finally took our order, she seemed irritated and unfriendly. Again, I understand stress or bad days, so I didn’t let that bother me.
The real issue began when our food arrived. My partner’s meal was fine, but my eggs Benedict was inedible. The eggs were hard-boiled instead of poached, and the bread was so soaked it was unappetizing. I am not a picky eater, but I couldn’t eat it. I had one bite and gave up, opting to eat a few potatoes instead.
No one came to check on us during the meal, and when we finished, we had to get up to pay because no one brought us the bill. My partner informed the server about the situation, but her response was dismissive and rude. She told him, “You should have let us know,” despite the fact that no one had come by to check on us. She reluctantly offered a “discount” of $2.50, which felt insulting considering I had to pay for a meal I didn’t eat.
This experience left us deeply disappointed. We’ve been frequent customers at Hugs and Sarcasm because my partner (who’s Irish) enjoys the fry-up, but after this visit, I doubt we’ll return.
To be clear, I understand how demanding a busy shift can be, and I’m forgiving when service steps are missed. However, how a restaurant handles these situations is crucial. Dismissing customers’ concerns and making them pay for food they couldn’t eat is unacceptable. I can’t recommend this place to others after this experience.

Food was good, but service was slow and not very friendly. I ended up standing up at ask for the bill after not being noticed for almost 10 min. Water was not refilled until I asked but was brought promptly after arrival.
Dietary restrictions: Had many gluten free options!
