Had a lovely dinner here to celebrate a graduation this evening! The service was excellent - hostesses and servers were very friendly and professional. The rib steak was excellent, along with the asparagus and broccoli as accompaniments. Live music was also a great touch. Don’t forget to start with the tableside caesar and end with the banana foster! Special thank you to our server, Jimmy, for making the experience so wonderful & memorable.

I'll start with the positives. Service is excellent and environment is buzzing, especially around happy hour or Thursday post-work crowd. Yes, it does get loud, but it's managable and if you're 2 drinks in, I can dig it. What I don't understand is the absurd high prices; the food is tolerable. Steak and mashed potatoes need better seasoning; don't be afraid of that salt. Roasted potatoes are seasoned well. Order the filet over the NY. The New York cuts (quality) are wildly inconsistent. Skip dessert as it's nothing you haven't had. If someone else is buying, yes, go and you'll have a great time. If you're proposing a steak night at the Hy's, make alternate plans and drive to Costco. Then, purchase a few rib-eyes or filets, grill it at home, and splurge on a few bottles of Aussie reds. Then, add the remaining balance you would've otherwise spent and max out your TSFA.
Cue the automated reply from the manager....

This was one of the largest let downs I've ever experienced at a restaurant. Going in, the service and atmosphere feel as though you are in a high class establishment. It tricks you into thinking you should spend more money than you should. And to be fair, that's fine as long as the value of what you're getting matches.
Unfortunately, that's where it falls short. I ordered one of the house classics which conveniently doesn't mention what size steak you get. The smallest NY strip you can order is 10oz. The steak I got was half the size and cost MORE. For $80, you'd expect to get something halfway filling.
I left feeling scammed, especially since happy hour wasn't available where I was sitting (why even offer it if it's only available in half the restaurant?).
I don't want others to make the same mistake. It makes sense why the place was half empty on a Friday evening. Avoid if possible.

An absolute masterclass in corporate hospitality and high-performance execution. If you are hosting high-value client meetings or finalizing structural business acquisitions in the Financial District, this Bay Street staple delivers a flawless return on investment. I held a private corporate dinner here last Thursday & the operational precision was exceptional from start to finish.
Logistically, the table placement ensures total acoustic privacy, which is a non-negotiable metric for high-stakes business negotiations. From a culinary standpoint, the execution is incredibly tight - the New York strip was perfectly seared to the exact medium-rare parameters requested & the classic table-side Caesar presentation shows serious trade integrity.
What really sets this asset apart, though, is the frontline management. The sommelier and waitstaff understand corporate pacing perfectly; they handle the bill, the refills & the privacy levels with absolute fluid intelligence, ensuring zero wasted time or awkward friction. If you value your billable hours and demand an environment that matches your professional drive, this place is an absolute no-brainer. 10/10.

Everything about Hy’s is top notch - ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food!
Got to give a shout out to Prentice who provided best-in-class service! He designed the perfect lunch for us.
Definitely do not miss out the cheese bread - it’s something else! The shrimp cocktail is four completely symmetric jumbo shrimp. We listened to Prentice and got the bone-in NY to share instead of individual strips - completely the right call!

Hy's is a landmark for a reason. Perfectly cooked steaks and of course we had to try & share the cheese toast, yum!
For a Toronto staple, and as beautiful as this place is, I was terribly disappointed. I should have known when I first walked in and the place was empty. The Cesar was too acidic and the lettuce was soaked and wilted. The prime burger was overcooked and completely devoid of any seasoning or flavor (why they choose to served to the burger on a scolding hot plate, further cooking it, is beyond me.) the prices are astounding. The service was okay; certainly nothing exceptional. Thankfully the desert saved the evening, but by then I was $100 down and ready to leave, never to return.

We came from a restaurant a minute away of which we did not have a great first 20min experience in. So we called Hy's and they told us we are able to walk in no problem. And honestly, we truly had an amazing experience at Hy's Steakhouse! We were greeted by 3 hostesses and they were extremely welcoming, something we did not experience at the previous restaurant we came from. With our main experience at Hy's, we truly owe it all to our waitress, Paula. She was very knowledgeable of not only the menu, but what she thought would have truly worked best for what we were looking for. She recommended our rib eye to be cooked medium-well+ which was a fantastic decision. She also was very accommodating with our mocktails, and ensuring that we were well taken care of. Please take care of Paula, she's truly an asset to this establishment!
