I get the uni handroll everytime I come. The rest I just let the chef pick. Torched sea bream, amber jack are also my go to sushi here.

high quality ingredients and very good taste.

Quality sushi and sashimi for the price too. Will definitely be a go to for me. I loved the ebi prawn piece with uni on top.

Rice is too soft. Price and menu lacks of transparency. We initially only ordered 4 pieces. It ends up served with 7 pieces

Ordered take-out from this restaurant. Their sushi tasted nothing but vinegar mixed in with rice and fish on top. It was BAD. Only good thing about them is they had Uni(sea urchin). Never ordering from them again

Fresh and delicious, the price is so reasonable for how amazing the quality of the fish is. It’s a hole in the wall restaurant, a hidden gem… I’m beyond great full we live So close by

I have been going to Kokyo since they have opened. I don't understand the bad reviews. I've read all the bad reviews and it wasn't my experience at all. They might be relative and have something to do psychological projection and individuals. I walk in. They socialize with me. I'm treated with dignity and respect. The food is top notch considering the chefs background, or should I say lack there of. I have not had to wait more than 10 minutes for a meal. Yeah the place isn't perfect, but who is? Considering what you're getting for the price I have to give them a 5 star review. I recommend Kokyo to all my neighbours and then some.

We love to go out. Last night we came to this delicious place which friends recommended to us. We enjoyed a beautiful time there with fine meal and a nice stuff and an impressive cook. We added this fine restaurant in our phone list and we shall definitely go again very soon. We deeply recommend.

Very well organised and welcoming restaurant. They provide generous meals and for reasonable prices. I enjoyed the food a lot and the staff members were very friendly and explanatory. Recommended.

The sushi is amazing here. We ordered from the blackboard a la carte, best white fish in the city. The toro uni ikura chirashi was also superb. Our new spot and a great start to 2020

I have to say this, and read Mario's review a year ago and other 1 star reviews for reference. We go OFTEN, or used to.I live across the street, been going here since i moved here in 2011, they are a great couple and have their quirks, but just because i don't order from the top tier selections, i shouldn't be left out to dry, as well as many friends and family I've referred to Kokyo because of Johnny's expertise and the great handiwork of Johnny.Their service isn't top drawer, i get it, neighbourhood quirks, cultural personalities, i can deal with this, it's a great big multicultural city. It just got tiring of having my menu choices scoffed at or my being judged for what i order, i never ordered less than 45$ and never tipped less than 20%. I want and love a good sushi place to thrive right beside me. I love my maki, sashimi, I'm easy to please. After workouts, yeah, i order quite a bit, we get the occasional "you order a lot". Quirks, i get it. Being a regular wasn't enough though, as the poor service started happening to me regularly, long wait times at a table with my guests as they're busy, i get it, she knows I'm patient and I always come back. Change has to happen though, this course won't garner new clientele and you can't always have international visitors ordering premium items, COVID is happening and i hope they are doing well.Johnny has experience and knows his craft, modernizing a little goes a long way, we all have bad days, but if that place is turning into a chore, and the passion is subsiding, hire some help, redecorate at low cost, rearrange the layout, reinvigorate, the service HAS to improve, it's your livliehood! i miss that place but can't go back after what happened March 15. I can't speak for them but i made the difficult choice to not return until i see better Google Reviews and i just don't see it, and other people are noticing as well. If i walked in one day i would very likely be treated exactly the same as their service has degraded, and that would just break my Japanese food loving heart. Not as the neighbour, but as the guy who orders lots of maki or sashimi or we don't have rice for your order and your friends 2 hours before closing. My first review after over a decade was always meant for this place because of how much i loved it there. It has to be at 2 star for now.

HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!! Only visit if you really know your sushi. Can you appreciate the subtle difference between BC and Japanese Uni? Enjoy varieties of Torro and Wagyu beef? Know what abalone is? And if you do... your only choice is to get Chef Johnny's tasting menu. I promise it's worth it and his generous portions will have you coming back for more with all your sushi loving friends. If you are looking for affordable all you can eat sushi or a california roll, this place is definitely not for you.
