I really wanted to like this place because of the lovely patio and the friendly waitress, but the food has been consistently disappointing every time I’ve visited.
The first time, I ordered the jambalaya, and it was far too spicy for my taste. On my second visit, I tried the fish tacos, and to my surprise, they weren’t made with whole pieces of fish. Instead, it was just bits and crumbs of fish covered in a heavy coating. It felt like they chopped up whatever leftover fish didn’t make it into the fish and chips and threw it into the tacos—40% fish and 60% coating.
The last time I went, I ordered a burger, and the beef patty tasted like it came straight from the frozen meat aisle at the supermarket. It was dry, hard, and just plain sad.
If I ever come back, it’ll only be for drinks and fries.

Ive found that this restaurant has recently taken a fall in the quality of their food. Last night, my food was served far too salty and downright burnt. This spot has been a classic for my family, for a couple of years now, but the kitchen staff needs some improvement. That being said, the overall atmosphere of the Lighthouse is wonderful and unmatched. Right in the heart of Kingston, this place takes a special place in my heart. The floor staff at the restaurant are unbelievably friendly, welcoming, and warm hearted, and always have the charm to make the entire family crack a smile. Overall this is an excellent spot with affordable dining options, however the kitchen staff could definitely use some improvement.

The food was very good, but recently it has been hit and miss. I ordered the sirloin steak with ceasar salad. Kale is not a ceasar salad with 3 croutons and no cheese. The mashed potato's were more like a stiff shirt collar and the veg, squash was burnt.
I have introduced many friends to the Lighthouse, including a retired hospitality chair from George Brown College. She came on a good day, but I will not bring her back. I have been a regular since you opened. If your kitchen staff was as great as your front of the house staff, I would feel good recommending your restaurant. I will not do so unless the food improves a lot. It used to be consistently good. I have had many other times I returned food, but kept giving them a second chance. No more.
I ordered the chicken Xacouti and it was not very good value in my opinion. The plate was filled with rice and naan pieces and a small bowl of chicken xacouti. The taste was okay. I wish I had ordered some other dish. I was told it was a popular dish, so I had high expectations. :(
My companion ordered the ravioli, which he found to be truly satisfying - both in quantity and taste.

So overall after two visits we would say it’s hit and miss. We probably won’t come back for a third time even though there is ample patio seating and Kingston Rd is a lively spot to watch on a weekend.
