Manpuku is a hidden gem tucked away in the food court. There's usually a wait but it's worth waiting for, and service is fast. Great value for money as most menu items are under $10.
Authentic Japanese homestyle food that's flavourful and comforting. My favourite is the beef curry donburi rice bowl. I also really enjoyed the kitsune udon, yaki onigiri, tsubugaiyaki, and chawanmushi. I'll definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
There's table service and seating available inside the restaurant (or you can order takeout and eat in the food court).

Manpuku Japanese Restaurant holds a special place in my heart. I've known the owners since I was a college student, and it's been amazing to watch their family grow—especially seeing their little one grow up! The restaurant offers delicious, authentic Japanese food at very affordable prices, making it a go-to spot for both college and university students. It’s one of my comfort food havens, where I can always count on tasty, satisfying meals. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff is always friendly. Manpuku has truly been a reliable and comforting part of my culinary journey over the years!

I have order 2 dishes , a Don and a Takoyaki, for take out. The server told me i have to wait 20 minutes for Takoyaki ,which still good for me.
I saw the Don sit on the bar table at least 30 minutes. There are lots of Takoyaki at the grill pan for at least 15 minutes but no one care abt it(no even serving for dine-in customers)
My order time is 4:33pm and i got all dishes at 5:16pm. Total ard 40 minutes waiting time.( double of what she said)
If u re hungry, be aware u have to wait 40 minutes for Takoyaki(in peak hour?)

Super good food at affordable price... Portion is not bad too.... except the oden....$4 for that was a little hard to swallow...but I do admit the radish was very good.
Would definitely come again to try the other dishes.... perhaps get 3 mains and share with 2 person. lul.
Place is indeed quite cram but once you taste the food, you'll forget everything XD.
Verdict: A definite must try again and again!

Manpuku is unfortunately past its heyday. Food quality seems to have been cut drastically in order to maintain their exceptionally low (and probably unprofitable in current economy?) prices.
Curry don was served with watery, largely flavorless curry. Chawanmushi had little seafood and no detectable shiitake, contrary to the menu (maybe hasn't been updated?)
Seating can be quite packed during heavy traffic hours - which, due to being in close proximity to a few colleges (OCAD, UofT, TMU, etc.) is most of the regular meal hours - and is not at all pleasant. Tables are simply placed too close to each other in an attempt to maximize the seating availability of their limited space. Ventilation is quite poor; not sure if A/C is missing like other reviews said or if they're relying on the mall A/C. Lighting is also too dark. Service is decent, but it seems easy to be ignored and forgotten in one of the corners during heavy traffic hours if you are not proactive in requesting service.
Only pro for the current Manpuku is its prices, which I understand they have maintained exceptionally low since their inception. It's true that you will be hard pressed to find another filling meal that includes a main and a side for $18 including taxes elsewhere in Toronto.
The bottom line: Does it taste good, like old reviews say? No. Does it taste completely terrible? Also, no. Could you cook a better meal yourself at the same price? As always, yes.
So, why bother with this place? Only if you want a cheap filling Japanese-style meal that tastes somewhat decent and don't want to cook yourself. I recommend sticking to takeout only to skip the tips and not having to pack yourself into a can of sardines for a subpar dining experience. Again, in the current economy, you get what you pay for (that is, no amazing food for cheap prices)

A lovely little spot! I think it's run by a Japanese family. When I tasted my food, I was transported back to Japan. I lived there for three years and I miss it so much. I'm glad I can have an authentic taste of Japan here in Toronto. ごちそうさまでした。

Ya had the onigiri, tokoyaki and udon noodles the only thing that was somewhat enjoyable was the udon everything else was bad. the onigiri had no filling, and the tokoyaki was soggy and no octopus. Being in the line for a while then not being instructed to order, then more waiting for the food and it being horrible is not the dining experience i would ever travel and pay for ever again!

I ordered the pork niku udon. The udon was good but the broth is mediocre.
I also got the chicken yakitori with rice and egg. The chicken skewers were cold when they brought it out to us. It was clearly not microwaved properly. You can see the stacks of microwave in the kitchen.
The price is still very cheap which you can't beat anywhere else. The atmosphere is authentic in that it's owned by Japanese.

You almost get what you pay for. The 5 dollar udon is basically udon with water. Very disappointing. Takoyaki was also overcooked and brown inside.
