This is an old style bakery/deli serving mostly the older people in the neighborhood. Their bread products are great, their pizza is serviceable but their service is fantastic. Don't really care for any of their deserts, and I've tried most of them. Incredible deli sandwiches and worth the cost

The desserts at this joint are inedible - overly doughy and flavourless. Coffee is not good.
The fresh sandwiches are decent, and the croissant sandwich is delicious. (I basically only return to this place for the croissant sandwich.)
The barebones seating and atmosphere reflect the low prices. The staff are not particularly friendly, except for the girl with tattoos and red hair - she is a sweetheart!
Do not recommend, other than for the croissant sandwich.

Ordered a custom lemon cake for my mom's birthday and the baker did a great job. The cake was light, fluffy and tasty. Just wish there was someone else to help the lady at the counter, the waiting time is too long.
Dovercourt's hidden gem!
The girl at the cash is really nice. Though, the lady cooking in the back is unhygienic. Hair on my plate and my Egg BLT was extremely salty. Not sure if its because it was cooked in old oil or something was stale…but we got sick for 3 days.
Food here is really good. Had the veal sandwich today and it’s 5/5. Bread is also super cheap and better than Loblaws. New go to weekly spot
Very authentic Portuguese bakery, the custard tart is a must try.

I was walking up Dovercourt Rd from Bloor last week fighting the cold and slippery sidewalks. I stopped in at Mel's bakery to warm up with a cafe and a pastry. Wow, the owner was so friendly and welcoming. This is a a cozy little cafe and the pastry was delicious! Mel's Bakery is named after the owner's daughter who I noticed they have an early bird breakfast special which I want to try when I go back. I would recommend this unpretentious little spot for a quiet cafe meet up .

Really cute and wholesome neighbourhood spot. It's the type of family business that you want to support. The atmosphere creates a great place to enjoy a coffee and have a good conversation.
We tried 2 of their pastries, although I don't recall the names of either. One was similar to apple pie, and was quite good, while the other was a flaky pastry with custard in the middle and vanilla/chocolate icing on top. The latter was extremely hard and difficult to cut through, so that wasn't great. I'd guess that most of what they offer is much better than this though, so I'll probably come back again.
