Sometimes I don't feel bad leaving a bad review, this time for some reason I feel bad LOL. Unfortunately, in this case the food was bad enough that I have no alternative. I was reading the other reviews before me, and I'm wondering if I'm talking about the right place? This is Riviera bakery on College Street in toronto? I just had a delivery order from them, and I've been there in person before so I am fairly confident I have the right place. I'm just perplexed as to how they received so many good reviews? The food I received was certainly suffering from quite a few issues.
I ordered a rum Baba but I guess they were out so they just sent me two extra cannoli instead. However, that's not really my issue. My issue is that the chocolate cannoli seem to be made from a pudding base. I'm very familiar with the texture of cannoli filling, of various varieties, and I strongly feel like this must have been based on some type of pudding? It had the texture of pudding and it had the taste of pudding. I've never seen such a shiny and synthetic looking filling. My son and I both did not eat ours. We left them uneaten. There was a slight cheese flavor possibly? But it seemed a bit off. I mean if it even tasted good I would have still eaten it, but it didn't taste good.
The pistachio cannoli had a better filling with a better texture, more alike what I'm used to with cannoli, but they didn't dip the ends in pistachios like I saw in some of the pictures here.
The tiramisu was dry. It had some okay coffee and alcohol flavor, but overall the edges were dry and it was stingy on the creamy parts.
I don't like to leave them a bad review but honestly, I know my way around Italian desserts and some of these seem to have issues.
Am I wrong? Is it normal or standard to fill your cannoli with a shiny pudding- like filling? I'm used to cannoli filling having like a ricotta or marscapone flavor and texture that's matte and rich?

My 1 star is not based on the years that I have been buying cakes from this bakery for different occasions. Their cakes and Christmas logs and sfoglia have always been delicious and works of culinary art. This year I paid $55 for tiramisu. Its an Italian bakery. You would hope the one thing they could nail is tiramisu. Not the case. While the outside looked like it should the inside did not. There were no lady fingers inside. There was barely mascarpone. There was no coffee or espresso. Instead it was dry white cake. I understand your regular baker is on leave but you should either stop serving less than adequate cakes or hire someone who can bake.

this is the best bakery ive ever had in my lifeeeeee!!! i highly recommend this place!!!! if you are looking for bakery or some food, this is the best place to visit!!!! i really wanna come back here and spend all my money coz its that good!!!!!!! so you have to go!!!!

Mixed review. They have good cannoli, but the second time I went it was soggy and it looked like it was sitting there from the day before because there were only four left. I asked if they were fresh and they said yes.
