A staple dive bar of Kensington, featuring a small but functional patio

Spent Saturday night out here, my fave Kensington spot. Had so much fun I let my wallet fall right out of my bag on the patio. The wonderful bartender Seamus found it and kept it safe for me to pick up! Also, thank you to Julian for handing it off to me today and pouring the post-wallet-stress pint 🙏

Stopped by for a drink with 4 friends around 6:30pm on a Saturday, 2 friends go here regularly and have always had great service, but had never seen the bartender working that night. From the minute we walked in the door we could tell the bartender was impaired. She was very loud, immediately started saying harsh things to us before we even ordered, knocking over glasses and bottles behind the bar, dropping things, etc. Weirdly told us she has killed a cat with her bare hands
We thought the way she was speaking to us was kind of her shtick or something - where she sounds cheery, but is saying some pretty rude and belittling things. Twice when we were attempting to order at the bar she walked away mid conversation and ignored us to say hello to other patrons. Took $30 cash from me for 2 drinks, and then only us served one. Waited 10 mins for her to serve us the second or give us change. We tried to get her attention several times but she was too preoccupied chatting with the patrons at the other end of the bar.
My friend yelled over the bar to her to give us our money or serve us the drink we payed for, and that’s when the bartender lost it on us. She immediately kicked us out and was making a scene about how embarrassing we all were. We all thought she was joking, because of the way she had been acting from the start. I assure you, the only thing embarrassing was the way she conducted herself. Said to us “I will pay you $50 to leave right now” and then proceeded to wave the $50 bill around in our faces while we’re standing on the sidewalk berating us. The whole time we said just give us our money back and we will go. We weren’t in there for more than 15 minutes total before leaving.

Apparently she is the owner - explains why her behaviour hasn’t been dealt with. She was on a serious power trip. We spoke with some bartenders at another spot we ended up at and they knew EXACTLY who we were talking about and said they have seen/heard many similar situations. Sounds like it’s a nice spot for a drink, if you don’t have to deal with that unfortunate human.

‘Ronnie’s’ is a good spot if you want a beer on the patio in Kensington. They had a small range of cool craft brews on tap - plus a couple of cocktails - but everyone seems to be sipping High Life!! Alas, nothing special going on here, except maybe some nostalgia and/or new-wave-cool, but you’ll get a cold drink and be in the heart of Kensington. Worth a (quick) visit!

I snuck in for a quick pint and was greeted with such warmth and familiarity. The beer menu is perfect as is the setting. Can’t thank you enough for giving me a wonderful respite. Everyone needs to stop here while in Kensington. Bring some take away and enjoy an impressive menu of drinks. Thank you!!

Really like this little place. We go for beers in the patio in summer. Casual, no fuzz and good selection of beers

One of, if not my favorite, dive bars in Toronto. Great people, great vibe. The place oozes with character and even made us ugly Americans feel welcome.
