Food was good but the service was awful :( I wish another server took care of our table. She was so kind and paid attention to her customers. Our server had poor knowledge about the menu and he didn’t give a darn. One more thing… I just don’t know how to use their bathroom - water pressure is so bad on the 3rd floor so the other customers and I were struggling how to wash our hands…
Food was great and the service was too (left us alone for a bit which was great for our conversation). Atmosphere was a bit loud and it was easy to miss the entrance but once inside it was lovely.
It was my favourite place for the best beef tartar in town and a memorable maple New York sour cocktail.Very unfortunate that they closed.
We attempted to eat here on March 19, 2023. I made a reservation (for 2 people) for an anniversary brunch. When we arrived, we opened the door to go inside, and immediately felt like everything is going to just collapse on us (extremely tight spacing). We were taken to the top floor to a tiny table that was situated at the end of the staircase, extremely tight situation. This was a terrible location, so I asked the host if they can please give us another table, and they said they will try. So, we waited around 5-10 minutes, and we were seated downstairs on the main floor at another tiny table. I went to hang up our coats, and we sat down. My chair got hit numerous times by people walking by, both customers and employees and our coats (which were hung up) kept getting touched as well by many people walking by the entrance area, where the coat hanger was situated. Way too many tables for comfortable seating. I asked the waitress again if we can have another bigger table and she said that it's policy that they don't seat 2 people at any bigger tables because it's so busy, which feels like it's all about the money with this restaurant. She said that if it was dinner, they may have been able to accommodate our request, which doesn't make it feel like a real "policy" anymore. The host was quite dry in their responses to me when I asked for different tables, and just said and I quote, "sorry I can't". When the party of 5 that got seated next to us arrived, I had enough and I couldn't deal with it anymore, it was just too tight. We had just placed our order previous to them arriving, so I walked up to our waitress and apologized and told her that I cannot take this tight seating space and wanted to cancel our order. She was very nice and understood our situation. I saw many others talk about the tight spacing (other Google reviews) in this restaurant, but my partner really wanted to try the pancakes. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to try them, as we just got up and left. We will never go back, that's for sure. I've never stepped in any restaurant anywhere (Europe, North America, or Central America) that told me it's not possible to get a bigger table. If that is how they want to do it, and keep their "policy", then we will take our business elsewhere. The only reason why I am rating this restaurant 2 stars, is because the waitress was super nice and understanding.
Honestly this place has potential. I like the energy and the atmosphere. I was trying my best to give it a shot. The coffee was good, although the table lacked sugar. The pancakes were VERY dense and had this weird corn bread taste to them. There was very little....syrup/sauce, which added to the issue of the dry, corn bread pancakes. The one thing that I did like was, when you included the whipped cream and the strawberries, the flavor was great! Its just the density and the stif quality of the pancakes that ruined it IMHO. my date got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict, and they enjoyed it, the eggs were cooked good, but the quantity of arugula was over whelming. We also waited 15 minutes for the person to bring the card machine over, the recipes were given at 1:21 and they finally came back at 1:36... They must have forgotten about us....6.5/10 not sure if I'd recommend
We had a lovely time having breakfast here with friends on a Saturday morning. Service was prompt and food was fresh, delicious. We had 3 different variations of Benedict and all were nice, along with some fresh juice and of course coffee. Also their Irish Hot Chocolate was amazing. Would love to visit for more.
This is one of the best places that I have had brunch in. Not only their meals are so yummy, but also their place and design are so unique and pretty. We enjoyed our visit.
There’s something about Smith that feels so comfortable. It’s a mix of the name, the mismatched cutlery, and the decor that feels so inviting. There are 2 floors and the staff are wonderful. The donuts taste delicious and fluffy on their own but dip ‘em in the lemon sauce for an extra punch. The Ballina Benedict and Huevos Rancheros were both super filling and delicious.
Good food and great service in a hip place. I had brunch here on a Saturday morning with my wife and 23 month old. The nice part about Smith is that they allow reservations for brunch! We showed up at 9am (opening time) and were the first guests of the day. Note that they didn’t open the door until 9:05. We were seated on the first floor which was roomy enough to accommodate a table with a high chair.Food-wise, it’s more of a 4 than a 5. The brisket in the hash was a little dry and the poached eggs were over cooked (not runny). The chicken in the panini was also on the dry side. The pancakes were tasty because of the sauce/topping which it could have used more of. Aside from the above, the rest of the food components were pretty good. I should also mention that the hash and pancakes were generous portions.Service-wise, it’s a 5. Very pleasant staff with attentive and courteous service. The people working here are lovely. When we were leaving, my child had accidentally left his toy car behind and one of the staff members ran outside in the rain to hand it back to us! We were so grateful as my son would have been so disappointed to lose his toy. Thank you again to the kind lady for saving us from another toddler tantrum!Overall, I would definitely dine here again and try more of their menu. Service here is great and the restaurant is family friendly (at least on the first floor). We will be back! :)
My third time coming to Smith and this place does not disappoint for brunch!! The atmosphere inside is very quaint and cozy. They also have a covered outdoor park. My friend had the avocado toast with prosciutto, and I had the Nutella banana waffle. Both were incredibly delicious.I have included photos of the washroom... Because they are literally the one of the most beautiful washrooms I've seen!(Only suggestion, some instructions on how to turn the taps on)

We had such a nice time at Smith! Wow I can’t believe how busy it was. Luckily we made a reservation so we only had to wait a short 5 minutes before they sat us at our table. We actually shared a large table with two other guests who we eventually chatted up, became friends and shared a cocktail with! So fun!Speaking of food and and drinks - everything hit the spot. My boyfriend had the brisket hash which had so much hearty flavour. I had the chicken panini which was good - exactly what I wanted something light but also satisfying. The chicken breast was a smidge dry, but I know it’s hard to keep breast juicy so I can forgive. Espresso martini was amazing! Great service here too! I didn’t catch my servers name but he was wearing a purple/black striped shirt and he was awesome! Thanks Smith!
Cozy little place. Went there for the first time and the server gave us baked goodies for free! Their food portions are huge. I ordered brisket and it tasted amazing. The service was exceptionally good.
Went for brunch, the bacon was so over cooked it was hard to chew and the home fries had a dry chewy layer and the inside was sand dry. The beans and egg were okay but would not go back there
Great experience at Smith on Church St. Besides the food I'd like their eclectic collection of decorations, silverware and plates. The food was hearty and portions were big - I got a nicely tossed arugula salad to go along with my mushroom rarebit with eggs.Note about the washroom, the water from the communal sink is activated with the pedal on the floor!
Nice little brunch spot. Got the ballina benedict and the salmon that came with it was delicious. The layout of the space is a little congested but not the biggest deal. Staff is friendly, our server was super nice (didn’t catch his name) which truly added to our experience. Service was fast too for a sunday afternoon. Would return again!
