To get to the point I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I want to come back to try different dishes. For this night I have tried 4 dishes mushroom+egg tofu, husband and wife beef, orange chicken and HK French toast.

I think the highlight of the night was the French toast. It was a delight and it was not too sweet. Also mushroom + egg tofu was game changer amongst other dishes where it smooth out other dishes when their mala hit too much. Husband and wife beef was good but some may dislike the fact that the meat being cold even if you anticipate it but I liked it a lot. Orange chicken was nicely done but as a Korean it was something that were reminiscent of other dishes but still well executed.

Came here a while back with my partner. We waited in line for opening without a reservation and they managed to squeeze us in which was nice. Inside seemed like a little retro pocket dimension and the open kitchen provided entertainment during the wait. We got the Mapo Tofu, Silver Needle Noodles, some garlicky, i think peanuty noodle concoction whose name evades my memory and the hong kong black sesame french toast with milk tea icecream. The discrepancies in the specificity of my memory may reveal to more attentive readers, which dish made the greatest impression- but desserts for last. All the prior dishes were great, not outstanding nor subpar, above good. Only complaint was that the mapo tofu and silver needle were slightly weak, but that might just be me. The French Toast Wizardry was amazing though. Shit was unquestionably top 3 desserts I have ever had if Im being modest. That is definitely a must try. Come here, get ten, get TD2M, hop on a diet and come running back. Service was also attentive, but obviously felt rushed and slightly pushy due to time constraints. Overall a great experience and will definitely swing by again- this time with a reservation. Although I lack much michelin dining experience, I can definitely see why they earned the star! Can confidently recommend to just about anyone.

This has been on my food bucket list for a while now and I’m so glad I tried it! It can be hard to get a reservation but I was able to snag one for Sunday. I loved the retro interior, washrooms were clean and the panda chopstick holders were adorable. The staff were knowledgeable and kind. The food was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised with the banana ice cream (flavour of that day), it paired perfectly with the HK French toast! The only critique I would give is possibly more silver needle noodles in the dish and for the HK toast to be less crispy but more moist. I would definitely come back though.

Sunny’s Chinese is an amazing high(er) end chinese restaurant. They feature dishes from several regions of China. I highly recommend the Dandan noodles and the cold spinach and chrysanthemum dishes. I also recommend ordering a la carte to get the dishes you want vs the tasting menu.

For dessert the HK french toast was by far the best part of the menu!

Sadly overhyped and overpriced. Everything tasted good, but nothing was outstanding. Orange chicken was honestly on the same level as Mandarin buffet’s orange chicken. 90% of the diners were not Asian when we went, and I can now understand why 😭 Our server recommended 5-6 dishes to share between me and my partner, which in hindsight, was a horrible recommendation and an unnecessary amount of food because we had to pack most things up. 3-4 dishes between 2 people would have been just fine. Portion sizes are decent, but the prices are still not justifiable.

You can find Chinese food that’s just as good, if not better, at many restaurants in the GTA or Chinatown for less than 1/2 of the price. Tbh this meal felt like daylight robbery. Hard pass and would not recommend

I recommend $85 tasting menu! I was surprised that the smokey, charred cabbage would be one of my favourite dishes. The pork jowl and black sesame toast were delicious, but some of the dishes were less out of the ordinary and expensive for what it was.

Amazing place, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the existing reviews, I thought it would just be another fancy place.

However, it really ended up being a place I enjoyed. So much so that, I visited twice in the same week.

I can confidently say, you can’t go wrong ordering anything off of their menu. Their service is quick, food is tasty and even their cocktails are well balanced. While the food and cocktails are on the expensive side, I definitely think they are worth it!

Overall a great place and highly recommend!

We visited last month for my birthday and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was my brother’s recommendation, and he has always given us gems for places to visit. Nestled in an unsuspecting building, down a dimly lit hallway lined with storefronts for a vintage shop and a psychic. At first, I feel like we’re in the wrong place, there’s no way a restaurant is tucked away in here, but then the door opens, we’re ushered in and it all starts to make sense. A stark contrast to behind the hallway door, the dining space blends together a vintage diner aesthetic with pastel colours, moody lighting, and an overall cozy vibe. We sit at the bar and contemplate the menu as our lovely server takes our drink order. The banana candy cocktail was nostalgic and spirit forward if that’s your jam. I could spend an hour deciding what I’m going to order ahead of time and still change my mind once I’m there, so if you’re like me, go with the chef’s tasting menu, and let professionals do the thinking for you. As there was two of us, and we both ordered the pre-set menu, everything was served family style. Our first course came swiftly after our order had been placed, and as we finished up each dish, the timing of the following courses felt anticipated by the kitchen. If you like to chat with staff, I suggest sitting at the bar like we did, the mixologist was extremely knowledgeable and offered great insight into the development of their menu and dishes. The meal was phenomenal, and was an inspired and refreshing take on various Chinese dishes. Some stand-outs for me were the Typhoon Shelter Squid, the Tiger Salad, and the fan-favorite French toast. The squid was fantastic with a seasoning I found myself mopping up with some white rice so not to waste it. Although, I will conclude by saying that my ultimate favorite of the night was the Blackbird HK French Toast. Simple yet perfect in every way. Black sesame toast, butter, and condensed milk, how could you go wrong with that? Will we be back? Yes.

A little hand written sign tells you where this place is, right across from rasta pasta through the hallway you enter to sunnys. Its quite a vibe - old school dinner.

The service is excellent, with great recommendations from the staff. Many dishes feature Sichuan oil, which has a mild but noticeable tingle. While it's not my favorite, it’s subtle enough not to be overwhelming. That said, the food quality is top-notch.

We tried the charred cabbage—slightly tongue-numbing from the oil but delicious—along with the orange chicken, a classic done really well. The dan dan noodles were another solid choice.

Overall, Sunny’s is a great spot with fantastic service and well-executed dishes. Definitely worth a visit!

The feeling of finding a hidden gem is really the appeal with this place. Tucked away and down a long hallway you enter into a mid century diner with fantastic Chinese food and a chill vibe. We tried the tasting menu. My favourite was the Szechuan noodles but as someone who doesn't eat modern Chinese food very often, it was a culinary delight. Definitely a place to go back to again and again. It lives up to the hype and is a nicer , more casual companion to it's sister restaurant Mimi. Cocktail selection was unique and sensational as well!
