best bar in toronto. visited on a sunday evening and was greeted by the nicest of bartenders Dime and Margaret. cherry on top was the A+ bardcore playlist while Willow was showing on screen. can't think of a better way to spend an evening. May was a joy and made everyone there feel so special!

This used to be a dog-friendly bar, and the only reason I came here was the fact that my dog was allowed inside.
Now they have a new policy where dogs need to stay outside after 9:30 which effectively makes it impossible to go to this bar anymore. Such a shame, it's just a normal bar now. Why would you remove the one thing that distinguishes you?
You just lost a frequent customer.

The servers are not friendly and kindof ignore you. The vibe wasn't great in general. Decor was nice. Thats it.

I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Sweaty Betty’s. The staff, especially the bar girl with glasses and the ginger man, were extremely rude and dismissive toward our group. Their behavior came across as racist and unwelcoming, making us feel like we didn’t belong there for no reason at all.

To make matters worse, after we left, one of the men actually followed us outside and told us we were not allowed to come back—without any explanation. We still don’t know what their problem was, but the way they treated us felt discriminatory and unacceptable.

Hospitality should make all guests feel comfortable, but this place did the exact opposite. Instead, it left us feeling judged, targeted, and on edge. Definitely the rudest place I’ve ever been to—we will not be returning.

They treat straight people as they are from mars, they think they are very inclusive by only expecting gay people. Don’t go here unless you are gay, you will be treated as if you don’t belong. A prime example of a gay bar that has nothing to do with love.

Unfortunate front door service for a space that claims to be inclusive. Hopefully this changes

Drinks were good, super surprising to find a back patio like seating almost like we were in a green house with the roof being glass.

Honestly this is a really cute place but my experience was ruined unfortunately by a staff member (couldn't catch his name) that was passive aggressive and blatantly rude to my friends and I. Upon the first ten minutes of entering we ordered a hefty amount of drinks (as he told us to do... we were getting settled/using the bathroom/letting the bartenders help out those at the bar first before ordering) when we got there only to be kicked out by him for, what I assume, not ordering more drinks. Funny thing is there wasn't a line outside and the place didn't have much traffic. We were going to order more drinks as it just reached an hour into our night there but I guess it wasn't enough for this dudes liking. My friends and I were sure to be mindful of the space and tip well for our drinks. I'm sure this place is an underrated gem due to how easygoing it was on a weekend night at peak hours but I don't think I'd recommend due to this guys hostility. I heard he's not around every night so it's luck of the draw whether or not you have to deal with him. He's a tall guy with a man ponytail, but you can recognize him by his eerie vibes. However, the bartenders and the lady at the front were great and sweet! All the best!

Thanks for the response! Happy to hear more from your point of view. Despite a friend of ours being in line to order the rest of us drinks as per your instructions when getting kicked out lol we'll note down that hit on our etiquette. Nevertheless, please don't get it twisted! The back room was quite empty with our group bunched up on one couch, leaving plenty of empty room with the tables and the other couches. Plus, not to mention how empty your bar was for this busy Saturday night. Even the outside patio was half empty when we were leaving. I'm not sure if you noticed the other individuals on the couch adjacent to us who left due to how uncomfortable they were from the situation. We ran into them outside later in the night and spoke about it. But I get it! Hopefully we didn't cause too much hassle. It was a great time despite this situation. Please do not hestitate to work on your approach and etiquette as well. The approach, tone, and body language with your communication does go a long way! Take care :))!

Sweaty Betty’s is a true Ossington institution. Always welcoming, with a cool vibe that works for both young and old. A rare gem of a bar where you instantly feel at home.

Special thanks to May (the amazing owner) and Diamond for the incredible service — you truly made my 88-year-old dad’s day.
