Tacos Casa Sonora is a hidden gem in the Dufferin and St. Clair area. This small Mexican restaurant delivers big on flavour and authenticity. The tacos are outstanding—fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned meats, and tortillas that taste homemade. Every bite feels like a true taste of Mexico.
The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, and the owners are incredibly warm and welcoming, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. You can tell a lot of care and pride goes into the food and the service. If you’re looking for genuine Mexican food in Toronto, Tacos Casa Sonora is absolutely worth the visit. Highly recommended.

From the very moment I walked in: I smelled the exceedingly strong smell of beef mixed with steel-it smelled akin to beef being left out & left in a container of stainless steel. Therefore, while I was looking at the menu: BINGO-Spot on! Long behold, there legitimately was a stainless steel container left on the counter with beef in it. I understand & respect that it is a restaurant & food will be moved, etc. However, there is an immense & vast significance difference of handling, storing & organizing food correctly adhering to safety in order to prevent illness, etc. Additionally, I asked the woman at the counter & cash only 1 or 2 questions regarding the menu-she was extremely unfriendly & she did not express any minimal interest, enthusiasm nor professional, customer service attitude, conversation or etiquette at all. She demonstrated through her attitude & mannerisms that she does not value customers, helping or addressing their questions. After this horrendous lack of minimal, respectable standard: I politely told her no thank you & I immediately left the restaurant. If you take a close look at the back/close to the back in of the restaurant where there are numerous items stored-kind of close to the sink & the back: It is extremely lacking in maintenance, cleanliness, hygiene & proper health & safety-The floors are black coloured, pots & containers are stored everywhere, etc-This place is an absolute mess! Do yourself an infinite favour & completely skip it!

Came in today for the first time to grab tacos omw home from work.
I got 6 chorizo tacos for me and my bf and we both loved them. The meat was cooked to perfection, the tortillas were very soft and delicious. Have to say hands down one of the best chorizo tacos ive ever had. Well be back to try some of the others soon! Thank you for the great service and delicious food!

Overall: Most of the food was a miss - the chef’s need to reign in the quality.
Tacos:
(1) The al pastor taco was by far the best - the meat was tasty.
(2) On the other end of the spectrum, the steak was terrible - in addition to dry, flavourless beef, why would you ruin a taco with sautéed onions?
(3) The barbacoa taco was over-salted and unenjoyable (and I have an above average salt tolerance).
(4) the pulled pork taco was lacking in distinct flavour
Sauces:
(1) Hot sauce - Did not enjoy this at all and ended up using Cholula at home. Their sauce had a distinct garlic and oregano taste that I did not enjoy at all.
(2) Lime crema - This just tasted off. I think it was a mixture of mayo, lime, and blended avocado, but it wasn’t enjoyable.
Churros: Frozen product that once re-heated resulted in being overcooked on the outside and to dry inside. The dough lacked flavour. That being said, it has a nice thickness and chew to it.

Ordered an assortment of tacos (5 flavours) and they were all just okay, aside from the steak which was extremely bland. The meats were all on the drier side and underseasoned, and the side sauces were also quite plain. The churros were also overcooked (too dark in color) and tasteless. Wouldn’t come back.
