As Te Aro, this location was consistently 10/10. Different and delicious food choices: a feta kale muffin; an amazing apple spelt cookie; and other fresh&well made items The staff were personable and efficient. The decor was eclectic, the space was clean, and the music was interesting, sometimes fun, but never overpowering Time moves on and COVID came and changed a lot of businesses. Te aro became Pilot and, over time, the things that made this location a chosen destination disappeared. Most notably is the decline in service Now, tables remain dirty. Milk/cream/oat milk containers stay empty with spills on the milk station. Little or no eye contact from some of the baristas (not all). …. But, dare I say, an exhale when we’ve asked for the milk container refilled - or a cloth so we (myself and my husband) could wipe a table(I felt I was interrupting a private conversation, behind the counter) Sadly, 3 weeks ago: seriously loud music, a stale scone and stale energy balls, dirty tables and milk station, and forgotten coffee (we were told it was being brewed, but the barista would let us know when it was ready, so we waited… and waited… and waited … finally, when I got up and asked (again, I felt I was interrupting) we got a “oh! Right. Yeah. Sorry. It’s been ready”. (Unfortunately: it wasn’t hot, which has NEVER been the case at Pilot) This visit was so bad that we even wondered if ownership has changed. How can cleaning tables, having coffee brewing on the regular and having warm people working disappear? Pilot was our favourite place and it is a shell of its former self.

Really disappointed in this year’s holiday blend. I have purchased in the past and was a fan, but this year’s offering is incredibly light, despite the med-dark indication, and there’s no evidence of any of the tasting descriptors. Now I’m left with two bags of beans that produce a really lacklustre cup of coffee. I’ll have to look elsewhere for my next holiday roast.

I came in here because I’m actually a pilot, so I thought this coffee was made specifically for aviation employees.
Although I realized that was not the case during my time here, the coffee still managed to help me take flight towards my day.
Chairs are a bit rough here.. maybe it’s to help people move along and not stay too long
