Always a great meal and excellent service! The family is super accommodating with substitutions and seating too.

Eggs Benedict were amazing! Service and coffee was great! The Hollandaise sauce was the secret weapon. I love my eggs Benedict & was very impressed! Next time I’ll definitely try the baklava.

Courteous staff from the moment we entered the restaurant and right through lunch. Food quality was excellent and portions were more than enough. Definitely recommended and will not hesitate to go there again.

We selected ‘The Buttery’ as it came in as #2 of top restaurants in Newmarket. Wow - that wasn’t our experience. Two of us got a Caesar Salad as the Buttery was supposedly renowned for their Caesar salad. What a disappointment. The dressing had little flavour and the lettuce was ‘wet’ - what happened to using a spinner after washing the lettuce? I had a French onion soup, but again it wasn’t very good. The first thing that hits you is how salty it is, and secondly the cheese looks like the Kraft cheeses (orange and yellow) that comes in packages already shredded. That’s not a real French onion soup in my book. Failing grades on both items. Another of the party enjoyed the quiche but not the Caesar accompanying it, and the third guest had the souvlaki which she enjoyed. Not a complete loss, but it is unlikely we would ever eat there again. Goes to show that many reviews on tripadvisor are overly generous in their comments - or the chef was having a bad day.

This restaurant does such a good job at serving meals that are hearty, plentiful and delicious. We haven’t tried everything on the menu, but anything we’ve tried so far has been superb. The wait staff are respectful, friendly, and seem to be happy to be there to serve you. I defy you to find too many other restaurants in the vicinity that are still family run and do such a great job at keeping customers coming back for years.

The service, atmosphere and food are simply the best. We had the Eggs Benny and French Toast. Great value.

We have been going to the Buttery since they opened. Nothing has changed. The food is consistently fabulous and the family and staff who run the restaurant make you feel right at home. The Buttery has the absolute best menu and the food is incredibly delicious -- every time! So glad they are still in Newmarket.

Came for Breakfast with acquaintance. Menu offerings, as title states, limited. The Eggs Benedict with Salmon was exceptional. Friend had Omelette. They enjoyed it. No dessert on menu and nothing special offered when asked. No milkshakes. Had chocolate milk in a medium size glass (would have prefered larger).

The food is always great and served hot. Never disappoints and the staff and owners go out of their way to make you feel welcomed. The breakfast is wonderful and also I highly recommend their salads, steak sandwich, and quiche. I don’t think I ever had a bad meal there. That’s why they been in business for so long. They know what they are doing well and stick to the basics. Thank you

This is one of the best places from the UofT designated food buildings that I have had food from. The Buttery although meant for UofT meal plan students, will take debit/credit and other forms of money as well, allowing all UofT students to enjoy their food. This place has some of the best meal item/options I have seen and it is well worth the money. You could say everything here at the buttery is bigger and bigger is better B) .There priced realtively cheap comapred to other palces on campus, making it a place I would love to come back to often. In terms of food the buttery offers a wide vairety of bottled drinks, Starbucks coffee, pastries as well as sushi, sandhiwches, wraps, pizza and more.I highly reccomend their big belly cookies, they are massive, crispy and downright delcious. And by massive I mean they are the size of a human head. Furthermore, their wraps are amazing as well. You can choose from a variety of tortillas and they are super good when toasted.I would definetly reccomend students come here it is very good.

Like restaurants used to be! Quiet and tasteful atmosphere. Fresh flowers. Coffee and juice with breakfast. Easy-listening music. Anyone complaining about this restaurant should just go back to MacDonald's!

Went here several times for brunch when we were in the area. Wonderful food and service every time we came here. Great coffee!! Will drop by again the next time we are visiting Newmarket.

This place has gone way downhill and is now very poor value for the cost. It used to be fantastic! My husband and I went here for lunch today, intending to split. We ordered the Reuben (comes with coleslaw, no fries), an add on caesar and an order of fries + gravy. The Reuben: this is $16.50 so we expected it to be substantial. It was tiny, served on everyday rye sliced bread and was 1/4inch thick with nothing but a dash of horseradish. No Russian dressing. No pickle (except for two see through, thin sliced pickle rounds at the side of the plate). No melted swiss. None of the standard toppings that come on a reuben. This wasn’t a reuben at all. It was a plain, toasted pastrami sandwich. They also did not serve it with the coleslaw which is supposed to come with it. The Caesar: the size was ok for a side but the bacon bits nearly broke my teeth. The bacon bits are so incredibly hard, making the salad inedible due to the inherent danger of needing dental work after. The fries: They were standard and the gravy was good. They should have been included with the sandwich like every other restaurant does. Instead they were an additional $5.00. The bill came to $33 and change. They charged me $7.50 instead of $4.50 for the caesar. The owner argued with me that it is correct until I showed him the note underneath sandwiches showing the $4.50 to add it to your meal. I was taken aback by his argumentative attitude. He was very resistant to acknowledge something printed in black and white on his menu. I pointed out that they never served the side coleslaw and he said, ”it’s either or, fries or coleslaw, not both.” I said, “one is complimentary and one is paid for so, no, that’s not right. If the menu says that an item COMES WITH A DISH, you serve it.” I have never heard of a restaurant subtracting food from a dish just because you ordered other menu items. It’s just cheap and silly. After much back and forth he agreed to adjust the price and it came down to $25 and change. I appreciated that and I offered some constructive criticism: “If you are going to charge $16.50 for a sandwich, you need to serve something with it, like fries otherwise that is a terrible value for such a tiny sandwich.” He proceeded to argue back, “have you been to the grocery store lately?” I said, “ yes, and fries still have a huge margin for you.” Super fries, for a giant Costco sized bag are $4.99 at Costco which would have about 30 servings. Fries are DIRT CHEAP to buy. He was clearly angry at this point and shoved the receipt at me and said angrily and sarcastically, “have a nice day.” Terrible owner’s attitude (the old man), tiny portions, weird rules and unreasonable prices make this a ‘never again,’ for our family.
