I had a reservation for 1:15 today. I told the woman at the hostess stand that I had a reservation. She looked genuinely confused. I repeat that I have reservation. Another woman from inside the restaurant rushes out with a smile to greet us. I told her that I had a reservation, but I guess that wasn't necessary as I was not asked my name etc. The confused woman returned to her phone.
She asked me if I'd like a window seat, to which I replied, "yes, please." We get to the window and the table is dirty as is the one behind it. She tells me to give her a second to clean it. We tell her it's ok, we will sit at the table next to it that was already set.
They were not busy. 2 tables were finished and a group of 6 were about to get dessert. There was perhaps one more active table. It took a while to get anyone to get to us. One server seemed to be polishing silverware. She should be bussing and doing waters, in my opinion.
The server finally gets to us. He addresses me as ' ma'am ', also addresses my male companion as ma'am (LOL). We order. He then tells us they are out of artic char. They have 3 mains. You'd think he'd mention it before instead of after. We order a bottle of rose.
The hostess notices that our table is bouncing all over the place and comes to ask us if we want to move. How lovely that she noticed, I thought. She then suggests the same window table that is still dirty. There are 3 dirty window tables now. She says give her a second to get someone to change the table cloth. I don't understand why a) it wasn't cleaned in the first place and b) offering us to move there knowing it was dirty. I was thinking and I guess with my body language suggesting at they just whip that table cloth off and take the one at the wobbly table to the window seat. The server suggested another table already set so ok fine, we'll sit there. This hostess then says to me, "are you sure? Because it seems like you really want to sit at the window table." And then she says it's fine as the window table is wobbly too! So, she knows that table is wobbly and moved us from another wobbly table. If you know you have wobbly tables, fix them or don't use them!
I was pretty annoyed by this time and with her saying that because:
1) she suggested the window seat first
2) it's not busy so she, the cutlery person, or the confused person in the front could have cleaned the tables
3) she suggested the window seat again and we could both see it's dirty. They were all dirty.
4) they weren't stained, someone could have literally picked up the table cloth and gave it a shake.
5) it's not like I came in saying I wanted to sit at the window or insisted.
She was the one that wanted to sit me at the window TWICE but lacked the ability to shake off a table cloth or ask someone to do it.
The wine comes and it is not cold. He goes to consult with the hostess and for some reason she's looking at the already open bottles on the serving station for by the glass - like those are open and would not be cold. She goes to the fridge with our server, pulls out another bottle of rose and I can see her checking the temperature of it with her hands. One, two, three touches with her hands and she's not looking too confident. The server brings the bottle over to us and says that it is ' slightly colder?' (yes, with a question mark). It is not. If the wine is not cold, perhaps suggest another wine that is cold that would pair well with our order? That was not done.
Even if the hostess and server don't drink alcohol, they must understand that when you pull something from the refrigerator, it should be cold. Would they drink an almost room temperature coca-cola? See my point?
I decided to leave at that point. They did not try

We went to The Met Dining Room to enjoy their limited-time Summerlicious menu. The food was delicious. This hidden gem is located within the Ted Rogers School of Management. The restaurant operates seasonally, and many of the servers are students from the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (the first hospitality program in Canada). Dining here supports their education and is a delightful experience. I highly recommend it!
Ceasar salad and salmon were terrific. So was flourless chocolate cake. Instead of prawns we were served tiny shrimp. Server did not know menu and constantly had to find answers (but at least she did find out). Not impressed with food or experience.
Best Summerlicious ever. The menu was superb, and elegantly presented. Great prawn appetizer, perfect crispy chicken with slaw, succulent salmon with the chef's secret sauce, and a fine flourless chocolate cake. Our server was cheerful and thoroughly professional. Only complaint was lukewarm coffee, but that can be forgiven when everything else was so outstanding. Could not recommend more highly.
Was there for Summerlicious and on a day when it was a full house. Service was attentive and the food was delicious. Was a little difficult to grab the final bill but understandable. Unfortunately the outside patio was not available. Would be interested in going during the regular school year.
Great customer service and food is excellent. The appetizer "Atlantic Baby Prawn Cup with Cucumber, Avocado" was good but I needed to add a bit of salt to enhance the taste. For the main entree, I had "Roasted Market Fish (Salmon) and Tomato Veloute". This was scrumptious and to die for. I ended my meal with an exquisite and delicious "Mango and Coconut Sago Pudding". The 3 course meal was fully enjoyable.
Keep in mind that this establishment is a training ground for students taking courses in the hospitality industry. The ambiance of the place is sterile, think hospital cafeteria. The service was slow and ragged reflecting the inexperience of the servers who seemed to lack adequate adult supervision that day. It was slow to get menus and then to place our order. In fact 2 women at a table got up and left in disgust as the service was so slow. Once the food was ordered, the appetizer, corn soup, was delivered quickly. The soup broth tasted good but was overwhelmed by a big piece of melted goat cheese which seemed out of place. Additionally there was popcorn in the soup which was creative but strange. Main dish was panko crusted Atlantic salmon with grilled thin strips of zucchini and yellow squash. Excellent flavour and preparation but the dish could have used some starch like wild rice or even quinoa. Dessert was an excellent warm flour less chocolate cake. The students were unfailingly polite and helpful but the place could use a manager who properly oversees the dining room to ensure adequate supervision and service.
Food and service were both very good. The only downside was the kitchen seemed to have trouble getting the food ready. We had to wait 30 mins after the appetizer. We noticed diners who arrived after us got their mains before us. We also noticed other diners are also having long waits too. It took us 1.5 hours to have the 3 course meal which is too long for a lunch.
The ambience is airy with the extension of the patio make it even more expansive. The white table cloth and napkins added to the ambience. Cesar salad was delicious, so was the slaw complementing the entree. The slaw dressing was too sweet to my taste nevertheless tasty. I did not care for the chicken thigh entree. Some service details were amiss. Our menu was not picked up after we ordered. Waiter stood by our table after we asked for time to review menu. Food was served from the wrong side with waiter stretching over our bodies. We were not asked for tea/coffee along with our dessert. Cheese was delicious. I felt that presence of a supervisor was needed to monitor servers and train them on the job. It was great that our server asked for feedback which we offered some.
I recently dined at The Met and was delighted at the fast, friendly service. The staff was so kind and welcoming, they gave informative feedback about menu options and were eager to help us make our decisions. We were sat next to a large window that overlooked a gorgeous patio - perfect for our rainy day lunch. The food was delicious! We had a lamb burger which was cooked perfectly- not over done. We also had the butter chicken which was fresh and provided a satisfying portion. The value is unmatched in the GTA The recommended wine paired perfectly with the meal options. This dinning experience was very enjoyable and the students seem more than comfortable in what seemed a supportive and inclusive learning environment. We cannot wait for the fall semester so we can visit again! Thank you all!

The dining room is a teaching space. The servers and kitchen are learning to become efficient professionals. Patience is required as the staff are still learning. Regardless, you get a decent meal at an exceptional price. Very casual atmosphere. It is difficult to get to the dining room as the building is locked. You may have to wait for someone to enter or exit first.
It was lovely to support learning of culinary students. The food was tasty - only complaint was that it could be hotter when served. Not all dishes were equally delicious as ours. Our server was learning, but was so sweet and accommodating. The wine list was great! It was a delight to go out to eat a nice meal and not have to worry about receiving a crazy high bill. Great effort and thank you!
I had another great meal at the Met Dining Room. As we near the end of the semester, the students are more confident and efficient, and it seems that the food keeps getting better as well!
Dietary restrictions: Since they are a teaching restaurant they don't have the ingredients or setup to accommodate many dietary restrictions (allergies, special diets). They do usually have a vegetarian option.
Parking: The Eaton Centre parking lot is right under the building. It is expensive and will cost about $20+ to park and dine.

Great food! We had the tuna to start, and the mushroom risotto - so yummy! We also got brownies for dessert which were so moist and fluffy. The flavour on everything was great, especially the tuna which was extra yummy with the crispy onions. The students were friendly and the food came out fast. We were also warmly welcomed by the gentleman at the reception area: I think the value is great, and definitely nice to know you are supporting student learning. I love that we get to have great food and support the students with the Met Dining Room! Great job everyone :)
