This was a great place to have dinner. I’m especially thankful to Anne for her outstanding service and help.

Very nice pre or post theatre spot. We shared the Baguette and the Brussel sprouts as our appetizers. Both were excellent. The Shirley Temple and spicy Margarita wee on point. The pasta was lovely and my companion had the chicken pot pie that featured actual large chunks of chicken. Both are highly
recommended! We also ordered some sparkling water to share.
There was a gentleman that opened the door that welcomed us and a lovely person inside that greeted us and took us to our table. They asked if we were going to the theatre. Lovely so far! There was another server with red hair that asked how we were doing during our meal, and the person that brought out our food was also friendly! I could only wish that our actual server (shoulder length curly brown hair) was 1/2 as pleasant as the others. They weren't overtly rude, but we both didn't feel welcomed by them. I'm out often with my 20 something daughter, and we both felt we had somehow offended them. The icing on the cake was the way the bill was slapped down in front of us. I didn't think we had under ordered or taken too much time at the table.
Anyway, the food is good, good luck with the service.

Without a doubt, these are the best mussels in Toronto. The sauce pairs perfectly with the mussels, and when the pot is opened, the steam rises. The service at this restaurant is impeccable. If I could give more than five stars, I absolutely would.

The Senator is a timeless diner that keeps things classic—no fussy reinventions, just comfort food made with real quality. It’s the kind of place where lawyers, travelers, and suited regulars linger over a solid Americano or treat themselves to one of their sweet, decadent coffee creations. Bonus: there’s a full bar, too.

We’re smitten with the Senator Signature Sandwich: pillowy challah—an enriched egg bread—is griddled into golden French toast, then layered with ham, melted Swiss, and mayo. Served with a side of maple syrup for that perfect sweet-savory touch.

If you love a good club sandwich (and we definitely do), you’ll appreciate ths: tender roasted chicken breast—not deli meat—stacked with crisp bacon, fresh lettuce, and ripe tomato, mayo, on toasted challah. Simple and very satisfying.

So not forget to order a side of their home fries!

Me and my friend decided to have brunch here and her eggs Benedict were COMPLETELY raw. For the price that we paid this should not be happening.

Eggs Benedict was served completely raw and took a while. The service was very good my opinion but for the price of the food, I shouldn’t be having any complaints.

The restaurant is VERY small. It is recommended you make reservations.

The food was very tasty and was served hot & fresh. The portion are a good size.

The staff were friendly and attentive. The washrooms are in the basement (not wheelchair accessible) and could use an upgrade/update.

It is located at Dundas St & Victoria St. Conveniently across from the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre and near Dundas Square.

Parking is available right next door (outdoor) or there is underground parking within a minute walk (less expensive)

The service and atmosphere is awesome. It really feels like going back in time to a classy old school diner. But really high quality.

Old school gem. A downtown place with history and personality. Rare.

The Senator is a charming little spot that feels like stepping into a cozy, old-school diner with a touch of elegance. The inside is very cute and quaint, with a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes it a great place to sit and enjoy a meal.

Yes, it’s definitely on the pricey side—expect to pay about twice as much as you would at somewhere like Sunset Grill. But in this case, you’re absolutely getting what you pay for. The breakfast is delicious—easily more than twice as tasty, so take that for what it's worth. Everything is cooked to perfection, from the eggs to the crispy bacon and perfectly toasted bread.

The staff are also lovely, friendly, and attentive, adding to the overall experience. While it might not be an everyday spot for the budget-conscious, it’s absolutely worth the splurge every now and then for a truly enjoyable breakfast.

Nostalgic. Designed for a time when people were smaller. Still a very popular spot.
