I have eaten here since the 80s. Manpaku is amazing, however the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting in the food court. Only one toilet is open, doors don't close, dirty...I haven't seen a bathroom this bad ever, anywhere in the world I have travelled. It's disgusting, fix it.

The setting is a big disorganised if you ask me. A few food options but not a lot like you’d expect from a typical food court. The atmosphere feels choked and stuffy.

This an old, rather filthy mall with a crowded food court and is in bad need of an upgrade.
I was at the food court in this mall and decided to get an icecap at McDonald’s. I ordered on the app and the app said it was ready for pickup. I went to the counter and she handed me the wrong order (a medium instead of large). I showed her on the app and she said that my order did not go through even though the app shows it has (I think she did the wrong size). She would not fix it and asked to line up at the cash where 5 people were ahead of me. When I got to the cash I told the cashier what the problem was and I have waited a long time to get my order. He said he refuses to serve me. He refused to give me his name or let me speak to a supervisor. My whole interaction with MacDonald’s lasted less than two minutes. I was perhaps loud but in no way aggressive or threatening. At this point I was about to leave the mall.
This is when things got awful. A very aggressive security guard, employed by Paragon, approached me very loud, in my personal space, and quite threatening. He was not contacted by McDonald’s but approached me on his own. He asked me to leave. I informed that if he actually touches me I will charge with assault. That seems to have restrained him somewhat.
At this point I left the food court and headed towards the Dundas Street entrance where there was absolutely no one and called the 1800 number for McDonald’s to sort out my order. At this point the first security guard returned with two other security guards also employed by Paragon and continued to taunt and harass me while I was on the phone, threatening to call the police. I could not answer anyway since I am on the phone. The McDonald’s agent asked for the address of the mall. I asked the security guard for the address. He told me “Go outside and look at the sign you little twit”. I am probably three times his age. While I am still on the phone the first guard decided to heap on some more insults. “You are pathetic. This is all over a coffee. Get a life”
By the time I finished my call the policeman has arrived. By then I was done my phone call and was ready to leave. The police officer and I had a short conversation and I left.
I called Paragon security head office that day and talked to two supervisors about their security at the mall. I asked as to why their security act like thugs, harass customers and call the police over such a trivial matter of getting an order corrected. I also asked if it is their standard practice to taunt and call customers names and threaten them. The supervisor that handling the building told me that the management/ owners insist on having the security guard call the police for all matters. Both promised they will get back to me. No one did and it has been over a month since the incident.

I contacted The Torgan Group which manages the mall. I got no responses or “I am looking into it” from the manager who handles that mall in spite of 4 e-mails over a month. I escalated to their COO. He did respond. No apologies. He also tells me that the first security guard that initiated this whole ordeal does not even work for them. Which begs the question why he is on a mission to harass customers in a mall he does not even work in. The COO also confirmed that is their instructions to Paragon security to call the police for any interaction. No apologies for the verbal taunts/name calling from the guards. You can see how one day this policy will end up with a customer seriously injured or worst when you insist on involving the police in every trivial matter.

Also to be noted, McDonald’s has never answered or refunded my money in spite of a subsequent call to them.

Unless you want to run the risk of getting verbally and possibly physically abused, avoid this mall at all costs.

One of the best hidden gems of the city. The Village by the Grange has been a go to for me for the past 4 decades from my art school days, living and working in the area. It is timeless and magical and no other place reflects the incredibly varied and international food culture of the city like the Grange does. Although the city is ever changing, this food court has been a timeless oasis of equal parts small mom and pop restaurants sharing space with some more recent additions of food chains. It works, everybody will find something they like, Thai, Dim Sum, Middle Eastern , Sushi, Italian or Mc Ds they got it all and more.
