My friend and I were looking for a spot to have dinner before a show nearby at Bloor and Spadina. There weren't many sit down restaurants in the area it seemed, but I saw Victory Cafe on the map and was happy they took reservations. Even though you have to email them, they confirmed very quickly the same day.
The inside is more bar like and louder, but also good to eat. We sat on the heated patio, which felt more lounge like and good for dinner. We decided to share a number of things; the greek salad, caesar salad, garlic toast, mac and cheese and arancini.
The salads were great - pretty standard. The stand out was the mac and cheese. It was so cheesy! We loved the garlic toast as well. You get quite a lot and dipping it in the mac and cheese was amazing. I love arancini, but was a bit disappointed. They seemed frozen and weren't cooked all the way through. A big portion though with 6 balls.
Decent service and ambiance. There were lots of other delicious things on the menu that I'd come back to try, including some red and white pizzas!

Dropped in to try the mussels diavolo, which I noticed posted on the menu outside one quiet weekday afternoon. They were OK, the bread that came with it was the best part, but the arugula “Classy” salad was very tasty. I also ordered a pizza to take home which was just OK. I liked the interior, we were the only people in there so it was quiet except for the wait person talking to someone at the bar. I would try this place again.

Every time we come here, the service is absolutely outstanding. Today we celebrated our anniversary, and they surprised us with two extra complimentary shots. On my birthday, they even brought me a slice of cake. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the food is incredibly delicious. Highly recommend this place to everyone.

I haven’t had this bad of an experience eating out in a long time. I really wanted to like this place because it’s near where I live and is open late. I also try to give servers and restaurant employees some slack because I have years of experience in the service industry and know how rough it can be. For that reason, I almost always tip 20% or more when getting food at any place, even takeout.
I’m not likely to come back. They wouldn’t let me add arugula to my pizza, but told me there were other pizzas that had arugula that I could choose (but didn’t want). Fine. I asked for an iced tea with a sweetener on the side, added some raw sugar, and then tasted it to discover it was brisk or some prefab fountain drink. When I told my server that I wasn’t going to be able to drink it cause I had expected brewed unsweetened tea and had put a bunch of sugar on top of the already over-sweetened drink as asked that it be taken off the bill, the response I got was “I don’t think so, the iced tea is the iced tea.” Only after saying that it’s not what I expected and I wouldn’t be able to drink it and then speaking with the bartender was it taken off the bill.
To be clear, this is not industry standard, even for a sports bar. Especially for a fountain drink that probably costs them $.20 or less to pour. I then had to wait about 10 minutes after putting my food in a box to pay, even though I tried to get the attention of multiple staff after waiting to pay out.
Considered walking out, but I paid without a tip. Which, as I said, is something I almost never do. Very disappointing.
