Sushi was great. In steaks filet mignon was better than New York sirloin and shrimp dish was delicious too.

What a fabulous find. Delicious sushi, attentive quick service. Sashimi was fresh, sushi pizza was good, spicy tuna great. They also have a teppaniyaki section which we will explore next time. Recommend for a quick lunch or dinner.

Good place for Japanese cuisine
Have. Wide choice available the only thing being it is difficult for vegetarians as there is only one veg dish available in the large menu for vegetarians
The salmon sushi as well as the main dish was good. Chicken lunch was nice as well.
The veg selection Yaki Udon though specifically made keeping in mind the veg requirements was not very tasty could have been better

We were looking for a sushi place around downtown and Yamato got our attention while walking around Yorkville. Place is cozy and the servers are so amazing! Sushi was just perfect 👌

A lovely evening at Yamato last night celebrating a birthday with friends! Food and service were wonderful, atmosphere is elegant, yet cozy. Slightly upscale, it’s the perfect place for a special night out and prices were reasonable. One small note- with beautiful plates and napkins, guests are given take-out chopsticks- proper chopsticks and rests would have been nice. They seemed to cheapen the experience

If you’re in Yorkville and want a slightly old-school Japanese teppanyaki experience, I highly recommend this place. The food isn’t especially remarkable, but given today’s prices, it’s very fair for the service, and watching the teppanyaki show is fun.

The staff are friendly, and the chef at the teppanyaki grill is both kind and entertaining. It’s a great experience—especially if you have kids, they’ll absolutely love it.

BEWARE, fake ratings go somewhere else.

You can end up waiting for 40 + minute for the food WITHOUT being informed of the slowness at all. Very clear that they dont care about customers here and didn't even respond when confronted. Food was mediocre at best, total chaos in the restaurant.

Manager and the whole team needs training. Tons of other options to choose from, go somewhere else!

if i could leave 0 stars I would. I am truly disappointed and upset as I came with my partner expecting the service to be good as it is located in Yorkville. We were excited when we got seated at the Teppanyaki area and we also ordered with our server for nigiris/sushi almost immediately. We only got our water and then received our miso soups 15-20 minutes later.

Within 40 minutes waiting, we decided to ask one of the servers as to why our sushi order hasn’t come neither have we gotten the salad yet. It’s the fact that it was already 40 minutes in waiting until we first brought it up to one of the servers and she didn’t say a word to us and just walked away. Then we got her attention again and told us that she would put in the order again, like they’ve forgotten about it.

We don’t understand because as we initially put in our order, it was not busy and our table wasn’t even filled yet. If they have let us know in advance of when the chef would start cooking at a certain time but we received no notice or any communication whatsoever.

Then we proceeded to wait another 15 mins and still nothing, not even the salad appetizer yet neither did we get our sushi order whilst people around us were certainly getting their orders to their table. Within the total of nearly an hour in, after she put in our order again, is when we told them we’re going to leave and that’s when they started to panic and our nigiri comes to our table within 5 minutes…and we already told them within the 50 minutes mark that we were just going to cancel our teppanyaki order and we will just pay for the sushi.

Truly disappointing and baffled as they didn’t even offer to compensate by either housing one of our orders or anything but still asked us to tip which was insane. As the nigiri sushi, yes we ate it and paid, even though the quality was decent, the experience and lack of customer service left a truly bitter taste in our mouths.
