We were excited to find this restaurant in Richmond, BC. Indeed a local gem and definitely great hype in the offering. Personalize and attentive service. Food may take a little long but worth the wait. Freshly cooked and prepared Hong Kong congee and very flavorful. The awards on the wall speak it all. Well deserved recognition.
My rating as 5 is very satisfied

My personal favourite was the Chinese donut rice roll. We also enjoyed everything else. A great affordable option in Chinatown. And I also liked hot they give you your HK milk tea in a to-go cup by default so you don’t have to finish it at the restaurant. Highly recommend! So many different rice rolls to try

Simplicity is best. My go to place for some good old congee and rice rolls, and very fairly priced. They specialize in HK brunch, including brisket noodles and HK drinks.

Great accommodating place and good with instructions. Dim sum was ok, wish it was bigger and higher quality filling. Hence 4 stars. Not a bad late night option.

no? What does it mean to order your Uber and not provide me with cutlery? I double checked to see if there is a checkbox for not providing cutlery but there is none. You want me to drink porridge like a drink and eat rice rolls with my hands like Indians? ? ? Is it okay for the takeaway staff to use snacks? ***Additional reply: If you are spanked, just stand at attention. I even said that I have confirmed that there is no option to not provide utensils. Why am I so weird and weird in posting a comment? It’s really interesting. I can still wrong you. Can't? I went to Uber to check my order, but the mafia just found it and even sent my order number. I didn’t know my order number. Who were I trying to scare? Restaurants have also been opened

Yin Ji Chang Fen in Markham offers a slice of traditional Cantonese cuisine, with its signature rice noodle rolls and congee drawing a loyal crowd, including my cousin, who swears by this place. While I can appreciate the care that goes into their delicate preparation, I found the dishes a bit too subtle for my palate. Growing up in the Philippines, I’ve always associated Chinese food with bold, vibrant flavors—a contrast to the lighter, understated approach here.
The rice noodle rolls were undeniably well-made, with their silky, smooth texture and a drizzle of soy-based sauce that added just a hint of sweetness. I tried a variety of fillings, including shrimp, corn, and mushroom, but the overall flavor profile leaned too mild for my liking. The congee was creamy and comforting, topped with fresh greens, but it lacked the rich, savory depth I’m used to back home, where congee often comes loaded with flavorful toppings and aromatic spices.
In the Philippines, Chinese cuisine has been deeply integrated into local tastes, often leaning toward bold seasoning and umami-rich sauces. It’s a fusion that brings out the best of both worlds—flavor-packed and satisfying. By comparison, the dishes at Yin Ji felt like they were missing that extra oomph.
That said, if you enjoy subtle, authentic Cantonese cooking that highlights the natural flavors of its ingredients, Yin Ji Chang Fen might just be your kind of place. While it didn’t quite resonate with my flavor preferences, I can see why it holds a special place for fans of this style of cuisine.
