Visited for dinner with a small group of 8. We placed our order and asked for the food to be brought all at the same time. We ordered village salads, plates of calamari, fries and boiled greens. They brought out the calamari first and then around 20 minutes later brought the salads. After about 40 minutes we asked where the fries and greens were and the waiter replied that the greens and fries needed more time to cook. Now I’ve cooked both before and pretty much know that this is a lie. He was a cocky waiter and I will not describe him although he is distinguishable. The bus boys were young and hardworking. Food was good but when customers ask for the food to be brought at the same time, it’s not a difficult request.

We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! The service was excellent—very attentive, respectful, and welcoming throughout our visit. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal.

The food was absolutely delicious—every single dish we tried was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. A special highlight for us was when they lit the cheese on fire at the table—my kids absolutely loved that little show, and it tasted amazing too!

They also made our dessert extra special for a birthday celebration, which we truly appreciated. The tableside baklava preparation was another standout—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly done.

Overall, everything from the service to the food and presentation was outstanding. Highly recommend, and we will definitely be coming back!

The waitstaff were true PROFESSIONALS — service and atmosphere were top-notch! I give the food 4 stars because I’ve been to Greece many times and have something to compare it to, but it was still tasty and high quality. Highly recommend this restaurant!

One of the best dinners I’ve had, calamari is amazing and the lamb chops were even better. The Taramosalata was incredible, almost ordered a second order cause we scarfed it down so fast, very good food can’t wait to go back and have some more tarama and calamari! Highly recommend if you’re looking for amazing Greek food.

A new place for us.. great authentic Greek cuisine. Not like the other cookie cutters that are out there. My wife got the moussaka. And I think she says the best moussaka she's ever had. I got the leg of lamb it was incredible. Very flavorful with moist.

Where service and food are top shelf and the owners know how to make a night special. Authentic Greek in a great setting.

Inside, the restaurant exudes a clean Mediterranean calmness that instantly transports you out of Toronto’s winter and into what feels like indoor al fresco dining. It’s the kind of space that encourages ordering a half litre of wine (their house versions are only $27) and easing into the evening.

A basket of warm, crusty bread starts the meal, with our server snipping dried oregano right into the olive oil - a fragrant, rustic touch. A thick, zesty red pepper hummus also arrives for those who prefer a spread over a dip.

Philoxenia offers calamari ($30.95) grilled or fried. The appetizer consists of two sizeable portions of squid with a rather tasteless “house sauce” (a seafood sauce and mayo concoction?) on the side. The calamari itself was fresh, though I wish the thicker end had been cooked slightly longer, since it bordered on gelatinous. Skip the house sauce and pair it with the roasted pepper hummus instead; it works surprisingly well.

The lamb chops ($59.95) are the star: four beautifully grilled chops served with a thick smear of tzatziki, soft lemony potatoes, and simply sautéed vegetables (broccoli and green beans). For me, it’s these minimally fussed-over dishes that makes for quintessential Greek dining.

We added the grilled vegetables ($27.95) on the side, though there really wasn’t a lot of vegetables. Think two thin slices of zucchini and eggplant, a single roasted carrot’s worth, and a couple rings of grilled onion. What is there is delicious - drizzled with balsamic and sprinkled with feta - but for a dish centered around vegetables, I expected more. For vegetarians, a mound of rice and lemon potatoes help round it out into a decent main.

One thing I genuinely appreciated about Philoxenia is they don’t try to rush you. It’s a restaurant that lets you linger, offering a leisurely meal in a quiet, spacious dining room with plenty of breathing room between tables… something that’s increasingly rare in Toronto’s newer, sardine-can-style restaurants. Philoxenia nails that cozy, unhurried Greek dining experience that makes you want to stay a little longer and sip a little more wine.

Adding to review again as the owner is claiming I never ate the restaurant. For clarity, again, I ate at the restaurant a few weeks ago. I’m extremely certain of this and extremely certain that the service was slow, food served to different people at different times (by like 15 minutes). Taste was bland. The Greek salad was very expensive and yet not better than jimmy the Greek. The expensive fish special was bland tasting. The meal took so excruciatingly long that you came over to apologize. I’ll see if I can find the receipt to prove to you that I was there. In the meantime I suggest you treat customers that spent a lot of money at your restaurant with a little more respect. Accusing me of never being there is kind of ridiculous. You could really just say that about any negative review. Good tactic

Adding to review - Per the restaurant’s comments I was in fact combining two different occasions. I ate at Philoxenia a few weeks ago where I received bad service, mediocre food and high prices. I combined the two into one review so as not to write two 1 star reviews, but I could have written two review or been more precise, I didn’t think it would matter to people considering going to this restaurant. This past weekend we were actually at Terra which was fantastic. Great food and service which warranted the high prices.

The response from the restaurant below was extremely rude and inappropriate. We’ve now had the pleasure of speaking with this owner on two occasions and both times she left a very bad impression. If you want to be treated like this, go ahead and spend over a $1000 for two couples so she can pay for her Maserati.

We parked perfectly legally, next to a loading zone in a marked parking spot between two lines. Not on the spot with yellow lines across it (as shown in your photos).

The fact that she posted photos of us on a public forum is really nasty. Instead, of checking your cameras why don’t you work on training your staff and refining your kitchen.

Original review that incurred the owners wrath:

Extremely slow and bad service. Very, very overpriced. Mediocre food. The owner came by to acknowledge the bad service and offered us free dessert which really didn’t make up for anything. To add insult to injury when we left someone was blocking us in to our spot. It took 10-15 to track down the fact that it was the restaurant owner that blocked us in. Not great customer service.
