Great little hidden gem. Our team loves walking to the outpost which is where the Spur Line Trail meets Roger St in Waterloo. They have great coffee and lots of beverage options, hot and cold.

I just went to the outpost for gelato. I asked for a regular serving and I got this cup with a small amount. She said it was 100 g and that is an enough for me as a serving BUT it cost $6.78. I love supporting local vegan places but unfortunately that is a criminal to charge someone that for such a little bit of ice cream. You are doing a disservice to the people who are trying to support you. Sadly, I will not be stopping there again.

A great little stop! The vegan treats are incredible. They encourage you to bring your own cup if you can and they also have a loyalty card (buy 8 drinks, get the 9th free).

Hot day, cold brew coffee after a bike ride. The cold brew coffee was delicious and well worth the slightly premium price.

Amazing espresso here. Wouldn't go here for food but the coffee is really really good. Just get a double shot of espresso and you won't regret it. Nice chatty service too. Still thinking about the espresso several hours later...

Whether you have stopped your car, bike, or on foot, it is always nice to have a place to rest, take in the outdoors, and have a snack and beverage. This spot is right alongside a walking/biking trail.. very handy. Baked goods are made there, so if it isn't sold out, there is a decent choice. All types of teas and coffees. There's a chalkboard with any specials offered. There are a few picnic tables to sit around, as well as a grassy area.
Also, there is a community cupboard/fridge at the back of the building. I have taken goods there often for others to enjoy. You can leave packaged fresh or frozen food, green groceries, hygiene items, and anything else that can be reused. 🙂

Got an Americano, which was pretty good. The server was great as well, we had a friendly chat while they prepared my order.
Leaving three stars because, as others have mentioned, the server added a 10% tip to my order before turning the machine around for me to pay.
It was odd to watch her do it. Isn't my tip at my discretion? Kinda weird, it felt disingenuous.

Please note this review is based on *TIPPING*

Today I was visiting a friend who is vegan and wanted to bring her something. This place was one of the first options that popped up on Google.

I ended up getting one chocolate chip cookie and one peanut butter as well as one Cinnabon. The pricing of the Cinnabon was NOT listed - in my opinion I think this pricing should be on the menu, as it is a featured item.

The cookies were $4.25 / each for a total of $8.50. The Cinnabon ended up being $4.25 as well for a total of $12.75 before taxes. With tax it came to $14.40. The cashier asked if we wanted to pay with cash or card and we said card. Had she said there is no tax or any of the sorts if we use cash we most certainly would have used cash. When the cashier tapped credit card on the payment terminal, the tipping guide popped up and she automatically clicked a 10% tip.

*SHE DID NOT ASK IF WE WANTED TO TIP NOR DID SHE TURN THE TERMINAL TO US*

The overall total came to $15.85.
$12.75 x 13% tax = $14.40
$14.40 x 10% tip = $15.85

I did not see any type of sign that said a 10% tip or service fee would be applied to the purchase and nor was I advised of anything. I saw what the cashier did with my own eyes.

I understand if she provided a service or I ordered coffee or something to be made. All she did was put the 3 bakery items in the paper bags. I always tip at establishments so to see this happen without being turned the terminal or asked is crazy. It’s just the principle of things.

BEWARE of cashier self tipping!!!

This place is a GEM! I am gluten and dairy free and I have never had SO many options to choose from! The staff was extremely knowledgeable about allergies and able to guide me about what items were soy free too which was perfect for my CMPA baby!! I have dreams about the ginger molasses sugar cookie weeks later. I have to stop myself from going back every day. Thank you, Cafe Pyrus, for making me one happy mama! Also amazing they are located right beside a paved path, perfect for stroller walks.

Lazy service. Twisted logic. Ordered 4 baked goods with our coffee. Server brings it out quick. Very nice surprise because serving the two customers ahead of us took an unusually long time. Were used to the long waits- im aware these guys take their time. Walk over to picnic tables and find that sausage, savory croissant are not heated. Go back- woman refuses to warm them- citing food safety. We say we just bought these. No sorry she says. We ask why food wasn't warmed to begin with. Sorry I was very busy was the response. Offers us a cinnamon bun as a replacement for the $25 of cold food we ordered. Unacceptable. No refund was offered. In short, food was terrible, service was terrible. Guess I'll save my money next time. Also, a spanakopita is NOT a croissant. If it's circular and not crescent shaped and not made with layers of laminated dough it's NOT a croissant. So, stop with the false advertising.

They are very nice here. I wish that I could afford their unique treats! But actually, sometimes I can!... because Cafe Pyrus regularly donates their day olds to us less-capables by way of the community fridges around back... The ones that... drum roll... happen to be the best community pantry/fridge location in all K-W! Yeah, woo! Literally the coolest. Two fridges.

Don't worry, only a handful of us desperate souls are feral to the point of scattering countless items around ourselves while repacking our bags after grabbing some gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip muffins from the back, muttering incoherently. Even fewer would dare approach the seating area. Oh no. Not with the laundered smell of the middle class wafting around from the front, dancing around the small wooden cabin along with the echoes of lighthearted smalltalk and laughs that know no despair beyond grandma's hip surgery, which, huh, I guess ranks highly. Me, I do my best to twist a smile of greeting onto my face whenever I make the mistake of shuffling up from around the back corner of the building during open hours, suddenly in full view of happy families on rainbow picnic tables eating snacks, as parents try not to visibly tense up and I try to twist directly towards the pantry door and claw it open, desperate to make it clear as quickly as possible that I am not coming any closer or making needless eye contact. Phew. Thats why we mostly come at night. Mostly.

Please oh please will this make Google stop requesting my review over and over again?

Great location right on bike trail. Stop in and get a good drink at fair prices. Relax for a few minutes before getting back on the trail.

Can you imagine having to pay an automatic 10% gratuity without your knowledge for miserable service? Once I realized that I had been tricked into leaving a tip and inquired, the employee indicated that they have two signs saying this is their process. The signs are very small and not obvious at all. I am disgusted with how slimy this practice is and will absolutely not return.
