We’ve heard about the famous pork hock here for years and finally had the chance to try it. The restaurant has a lovely, vintage ambiance, and the service was quick and the staff very friendly. Unfortunately, the pork hock didn’t quite live up to the hype. While the dish was good, the skin wasn’t as crispy as we had expected, leaving it a bit oily. The meat also lacked the smoky flavor we were hoping for. It’s a decent choice for a casual family dinner if you're just dropping by, but if you're coming specifically for the pork hock, it might not meet your expectations.

Food and drinks: We visited the restaurant
Very average food. They even mixed up the plates.

Visited since 2010, but the regular visit might come to an end. it was nice little but lousy restaurant with good atmosphere and heart warming food with great portion and great taste. Every since new owner took it over, portion got a lot smaller, food does not taste the same, less smoky flavour, etc. Every time when we took a visit during the weekend, the restaurant was always packed with people. Now days, the restaurant became quiet and the foods are getting dry, you can taste it in the pig tails and sausages.

Dinner was just warm only because gravy was warm. Meat was very tough with no taste, the other meal burger wasn't fully cooked. $7.90 for 2 cans of pop. They should be ashamed of themselves. Was our last meal there, NEVER AGAIN !!!! PLACE IS VERY

Olde Heidelberg Motel - great price but lousy non existent service! Don’t expect much from the staff by way of housekeeping. I booked an 8 night stay and NEVER saw housekeeping staff once during my stay (no garbage removal, no carpet vacuuming, no beds remade, no towels changed, bathroom eas never cleaned, …). I did leave a message with the hotel management on day 6 of my stay asking to have my room serviced, the only thing they did was drop a pile of clean towels on a chair inside the door. I do not recommend staying at this property, spend the extra money and select a property that knows how to properly service their hotel rooms.

The food was "okay". Nothing to get excited about and portions weren't very big. I got the impression it's a popular place so maybe I didn't order the right thing. Not my cup of tea and will not be making the drive there again. Note: review is ONLY for the restaurant

Every time I go to this restaurant to eat, the parking spaces are basically full, and nearly 50% of the customers inside are Chinese. It has become an internet celebrity check-in shop for Chinese foodies.
This pork knuckle shop in a small German town is said to be opened by German descendants, and it has a very authentic German taste. Have a portion of smoked pig's trotters, paired with a shot of German dark beer, it's so delicious.
When going to Waterloo, you must try the German pork trotters from The Old Heidelberg, a century-old restaurant. The meat is lean and very soft. If you think it tastes bland, you can sprinkle some black pepper and salt.
However, the Heidelberg Restaurant is actually a motel that has been around for nearly 200 years. The restaurant is part of the hotel, but everyone comes here for the German pig trotters, and the hotel is not that famous. It is only 5 kilometers away from St. Jacobs and Farmers Market respectively, and is also close to Waterloo. Many tourists come here to have a big meal when visiting attractions on weekends.

I was visiting the St. Jacobs Market that was nearby when my wife gave a suggestion that we should visit this little place for lunch.
Looking for the directions to get here, I have come across some not so savory reviews about the restaurant and it kind of affected my expectations after hearing all the good things about it.
But, to my surprise, not only the service was excellent, the food was very good for price. Both exceeding what I initially expected.
While enjoying my meal, one of the servers accidentally dropped the dirty glasses and other dishes they had and it shattered everywhere in my direction. Although I wasn't injured, she was really concerned if the pieces of glasses really nicked me. At the end when I was about to pay for the bill, she actually paid the bill on my behalf while still apologizing for the incident that had occurred.
I will definitely come back to this restaurant if I am in the area again.
