The Customer service was phenomenal! Came in with my cousins to get some takeout, the owner spoke to us and offered a lot of options since it was our first time they also gave us extra plates and utensils and extra of basically everything. The wait time was about 10-15 minutes, we had finished a movie and all of us were thirsty and the owner had provided us with water aswell! Highly recommend Calypso Queen in Whitby! And they are also a franchisee, hope this review helps bring you a lot of customers!

My first time trying them craving a wing ton soup after work being sick all week and let me tell you OMFG............. it was so good and the potion for the price was even better. The staff was so friendlt .

Picked up curry chicken with paratha for 3. The gravy was watery, too hot and the chicken was the kneecap, essentially between the thigh and drum, there was no actual meat. More potatoes than anything else. Gross. Will never order again.

Ambience & Service

I came in for dine in. The vibe of the place is great. They have old school reggae music playing and it has plenty of seating. The service was a bit slow but I had no issue with waiting. The woman at the front was very polite and kind when I was ordering and brought my food out when I went to sit. I had ordered the lemon chicken and the Calypso Queen fried rice. In all honesty I really didn’t like the lemon chicken and I asked if it could be replaced. They were very understanding and absolutely said yes! Which was so nice. I changed it to the General Tao Chicken.

Food Review

The fried rice had some chicken on top which tasted great 7/10. The rice itself has shrimp, beef, and chicken mixed in. It tasted just ok 5/10. The General Tao Chicken was just meh as well 4.5/10. Portion sizes match what you pay for. food itself was lukewarm unfortunately and it killed the experience for me.

The This is a solid 5/10 for me. Great service and great atmosphere. Food was a miss today, I might come back again in a few months.

I placed an order with Calypso Queen on Dec 7, 2025. They overall had positive reviews and the photos looked good. I have had Guyanese hakka and chinese in Scarborough and was optimistic that it would be similar.

The food arrived and it looked and smelled amazing, I started eating it, I had roughly half a cup of rice and 3 chicken wings. Within 15 minutes of eating.. my skin began burning, my head started throbbing, I start to slur my word.. my tongue becomes numbs and my limbs become weak. I got a severe migraine I cannot even list all the symptoms I experienced.
I spent the rest of the evening from about 7pm through to thr morning sick and shivering, a massive headache and ready to go to the hospital. I couldnt even get to work the next day. I drank lots of water and strted feeling well around 2pm the next day.

MSG as a neurotoxic affect for many people and it shouldnt be added wo food without atleast warning people.

I was also disspointed that I called the restaurant and asked if they use MSG and they said 'they do, but why didn't I ask?' They didnt even offer a partial refund when I told them I had so much food and I wouldnt be able to eat it.

We’re regular customers at Calypso in Whitby and usually have a great experience. This time, however, we ordered a small takeout, just the chicken wontons and soup. The soup was delicious as always, but the wontons were disappointing. They had no chicken filling at all and were just dough that had been fried. We’ve ordered their wontons many times in the past and never had this issue, so we were quite surprised. I’m not sure what went wrong this time, but it felt like a real letdown. I’ve attached a photo for reference.

Extremely disappointed. I ordered the lemon chicken, mixed assorted meat chow mein, and fried chicken wings, and every single dish was completely flavorless — not even a hint of seasoning, salt, or pepper. For the price I paid, the quality was unacceptable and honestly felt like a waste of money. This was probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. Save your time and money and look elsewhere.
