I posted a Yelp review before posting this one and received a response from the owner filled with no openness to feedback, pride, and passive aggressiveness like a child. If you look at other 1 star reviews you will see the same.. the owner barks at anyone posting about their unsatisfactory experience. It is not a professional practice at all but I will not let that effect my actual review which continues…
Upon entering the restaurant I was happy to see the beautiful masks hung up on the walls, I was sat immediately and my waitress was very friendly. I ordered the opor and gulai with no chicken or tofu. Both dishes were $26.50 each. Upon receiving the food I was shocked at how tiny the portions were. These dishes were money grabs at the highest level. They claim the ingredients are made fresh but the vegetables tasted like they were frozen and thawed out instead. The dishes had nothing inherently special about them in terms of the tastes. For how small the simple dishes were (which were vegetables rice and a sauce), I expected flavors that would clearly impress me and I’d be very happy with. I was not impressed although they were not bad. The small portion sizes are the main reason for this poor review. I understand how these negatively impact a business but giving reataurants honest feedback is also proper practice. I hope the owner has the awareness to realize that negative reviews aren’t just “crazy people complaining”( I saw the owner comment on someone else’s poor review saying that they watched a video explaining the kind of people who post negative reviews, and the owner said how basically they’re all sick and deranged people. See other 1 star reviews on Yelp and google. Quite a foolish and immature way for a business owner to react to poor feedback from what their reataurant is providing to people coming in the reataurant and hoping for a good experience. Due to seeing the owners reply to my Yelp review, and then reading I’m not close to the only customer to receive unprofessional snarky responses to our feedback. There is absolutely no chance I give them another chance. I hope the owner is nicer to the employees but based on another review I read I have a feeling that isn’t the case :/

This place is outstanding and definitely a must for southern Oregon. We ordered 3 dishes and an appetizer and each one was tasty in a different way. Can’t wait to go back!! Well worth the prices bc of the spices and time it takes to make the dishes!! It’s also cute inside and the staff is so helpful.

This one felt like a sleeper. We went on a whim after a long day and it ended up being one of the better meals we’ve had since moving. Got the beef rendang and it was tender, spicy, and super aromatic. Staff was kind. It’s small, so maybe call ahead.

The beef rendang was delicious. For my taste, the gado gado has too much carrot and not enough bean sprouts. It also doesnt have peanuts or egg and the tofu was very minimal. The drinks were great. The restaurant is very attractive.

The Blue Toba special was delightful. The chicken was prepared perfectly. Flavors were wonderful. The homemade sambal was fresh and adds a fiery touch to this well balanced dish. I’m truly grateful for the experience. Staff was amazing too.

We stopped in for a dinner prior to a Shakespeare performance. The Mie Goreng and Ayam Bakar were very savory and delicious. This was our first time with Indonesian cuisine so we can't make a comparison. We also enjoyed the Black Rice Pudding and two delicious cocktails that exceeded expectations and were potent.

Awesome, authentic. Try the beef Rendang.
Excellent food. We’ve lived in SÉ Asia and found the food authentic. Ambiance and serving staff first rate. Must go to this lively spot
found this restaurant on Seed Oil Scout (for those who care about such things) and figured i'd give it a try. i have never consumed Indonesian food, but i'm sure glad i went!!! the beef rendang and the black rice pudding were phenomenal, with an abundance of flavors that were unlike anything i've had in my life. all in all, a great experience, and i hope to make a trip back from Portland very soon. kindest regards!

Out for an early dinner before attending the theater. Fantastic food with likely the best, most authentic Indonesia food anyplace in southern OR. Awesome job with the spices with the right heat without overwhelming the amazing flavors. This place gets busy on a theater night so get there early. But service was great and did not feel rushed. Great, friendly staff, super food. Would happily go again.
We really enjoyed the food and service! We lived on Sumatra for around 5 years and Blue Toba’s food brought back many fantastic memories. Had a great time chatting with the staff … we will be back!!!
