South Bay Wild is a gem in Astoria if you're into seriously fresh seafood. The rockfish banh mi was the standout—perfect balance of flavor and crunch. You can really tell the fish is fresh and locally sourced. They’ve got a great selection overall, and the vibe is laid-back and welcoming. Definitely worth a stop if you're in town and craving something delicious from the sea.
Everything about this place was fantastic! We had the crab appetizer, clam chowder, steamed clams, and the grand marnier bread pudding. Definitely recommend for food, atmosphere, and service!
Friendly service, great food. A hidden gem.
What a delicious surprise! We were just passing thru Astoria, and this place was highly recommended. The salads were great with perfectly grilled fish. The Fry Bread was tender and delicious!
We came around 5 minutes before they opened (11:55am) and there were already people lining up!!
Everything is hand caught by them which is cool. At first I asked for the Petrale Sole fish & chips, unfortunately they were out of it, so I had the rockfish fish & chips. The fish was so good, the texture was very delicate and flaky. The coating was also superb. I love most tartar sauces, and this one did not disappoint. What I was most surprised about however was the fries, the fries were one of the best I’ve had, super crispy, and super flavorful. Very rarely do I wish for more fries, but I did here. The slaw was good, a little too mustardy for me though. Our waiter was nice and informative. The atmosphere was lovely, it was a very cute restaurant. They had fun music and lots of cool fixtures and figures. The walls were very well designed! The large wood table was very cool, and it had a nice finish. Really amazing experience, if I lived here, this would probably be a once a month excursion it was so good!!
The Dungeness fry bread was unique and super yummy licious. Crab and shrimp cakes were delicious. In addition, the Lingcod and seafood chowder were scrumptious. I highly recommend this restaurant for seafood when in Astoria.
The food was delicious! The clam chowder was thinner than expected but it had good flavor. Fry bread and salmon cakes were very tasty!
South Bay Wild Fish House has a cool, PNW vibe to it. The fish was fresh, and crispy. Fried really well. The fish tacos were enjoyed by my sister in law, and the clam chowder was tasty. It’s not a thick, creamy chowder, but it jad a decent flavor. The clams were sparse, so that would be a nice improvement, but it was flavorful.
The waitress was friendly, and the food was hot when she brought it out.
We enjoyed our meal, but I’m not sure we’ll go again. There are other places in the area whose fish and chips and clam chowder are just a bit better.
The fish and chips was so good, and the clam chowder too. Service was also excellent. We split the bread pudding with ice cream between 2 of us, still couldn't finish it. Yummy!
Excellent fish and chips.

We left Astoria a few days ago while driving down the coast and still thinking about these fish and ships and chowder. ITS BOMB.
Place looked cute, food looked good. Went right at opening at noon. As soon as we came in, the hostess already seemed irritated that we were there. She told us 15 minutes, that the other orders had to come out first (however there were many available seats). Ok, cool, we walked to our car, walked back and then they said another 15 minutes. Again the front desk girl was rude, not welcoming at all and didn’t tell us there was a wait list we could add our names to. They have no waiting room or seating area. We had to stand right by where the food was being made in the kitchen, which was really strange. Couple next to us was offered a drink, but we were never offered a drink. Just super bizarre and rude service. We decided to leave. I very seldom leave such negative reviews, but this was probably the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant.
My husband and I are in Astoria Oregon for the annual crab/ wine festival. We read about this place on line and was curious about the fresh seafood. The BEST discovery ever!
We returned the next day because it was not your usual seafood experience..
Their smoked black cod is something I’ve never experienced before. Done with a perfection of smoke without any dryness at all.. it was superb.
It’s a family run restaurant and the staff treats you like it. The bread pudding is ridiculous..
A must try if in this beautiful part of the Oregon coast!
I got lucky and had a special that was Miso Rock Cod.
The Clam Chowder was far better than anticipated. I didn't think It would, but now it's my favorite.
Definitely coming back when I'm in the area.
Went there for dinner while visiting Astoria. Took us a while to get seated and served but the wait was worth it. Steamer clams - delicious and the right amount of broth. Willapa Bay oyster shooters - the oysters were so big I was worried but they were firm and mild - also delicious. The fried calamari - tender rings nicely crispy and very tasty. The miso black cod - the special - it was so good I thought I had died and gone to Heaven. The fries lightly breaded and crispy. The Caesar needed more anchovy and garlic. My partner had rockfish and chips and said they were good but he agrees about the clam, oysters, calamari and black cod.
