You ever eat at a place and come away wondering why it doesn't have a cult following?
We came for lunch after a day exploring the tidepools. Wanting something a bit different than town and close to camp at Bullards Beach State Park we came across Pueblo Viejo.
As soon as we walked in we were warmly greeted and seated. Elizabeth, our server, was so attentive and on-point.
The salsa is fresh, the chips were warm and light.
Carne asada plate and Fajita Burrito were seasoned and cooked tender. The portions were generous! The ground beef enchilada and chile relleno combo was sized for a lunch portion. Ask for an extra side of enchilada sauce.
We tried 3 other popular downtown restaurants, Pueblo Viejo was hands-down the best food and service. The bill was half of the other establishments
This place!! Look beyond the humble building, pop open an orange Jarritos or glass bottle of Coke.

Food was good....bring your own napkins! Theirs reeked of mildew! I even grabbed some from there stocking table and those were just as bad or worse! Nothing like eating a nice meal and go to use a napkin and POW....massive stink....had to let my nose run and food on my face...it was literally ruining my appetite!
I try their Chile Relleno, I believe they used an Anaheim Chie, it was delicious. And their service was excellent
Unfortunately, the ground beef for the hard shell tacos had been rinsed with water, the shells dissipated and the insides just fell out. Most flavor found was in the salsa. Chips were hot and fresh.

We are local and prefer this establishment over any other Mexican food in the area. The owners are kind and generous with portions. The food is fairly authentic for something so very notth of the border.

Perhaps my understanding of what a burrito truly is is colored by exceptional burritos in Chicago but whatever this sad, flavorless, overcooked beef wrap was, a burrito it was not. it just tastes like they donβt care.
