While I have had many pleasant dining experiences at the Wheelhouse, it's very disappointing that they do not maintain their social media or website, or answer the phone, to inform diners of their hours and seasonal closures. And speaking of seasonal closures, taking the month off certainly doesn't make it seem as if you value your local clientele or do much at all to encourage loyal customers. A daily or weekly Facebook update would go a long way to developing a following and reduce massive frustration for many.
We sat upstairs in the Crowsnest. Lovely atmosphere fireplace, views of the lighthouse, river and boat basin. Food & drinks never dissapoint.

Calamari is TERRIBLE!! For YEARS we have enjoyed and told friends and family about the amazing Calamari at The Wheelhouse. WELL... NO LONGER. Today we ordered Calamari as take out and THEY WERE TERRIBLE. The Calamari are now SMALL 'strips' that are heavily breaded (well over 50% was breading), and obviously had been frozen. SAD!!! Why did you change something so good? What ELSE have you changed on the menu? Not going to find out because we are not going back.

Appalling service. Rude, abrupt - he actually took my plate without asking ...while I was eating - I had my fork in my hand and food in my mouth ...and a quarter of my salad remaining. The entrees were also bad, drenched in (corn starch) cream sauce, vegetables boiled until mushy. Bad. Really bad. But at least the mashed potatoes were decent.

Whether it's a bright, sunshiny day during the summer when tourists are strolling the sidewalks of Old Town or one when grey skies prevail and the locals have ventured out, you'll find a warm welcome at The Wheelhouse.
The menu includes a great selection of seafood.
My favorite is the Gulf Prawns that are charbroiled and skewered. The rice side dish is habit-forming as is the house-made honey vinaigrette. Try The Wheelhouse the next time you venture out to Oregon's south coast (or if you live right here in town) no matter what the weather has in store!

We went to this restaurant on a Saturday around 1:00 PM. We picked the closest restaurant to where we parked. Going in we were told to sit wherever and picked a spot in the corner that had a nice view of the harbor. Our waitress brought us menus then a few minutes later some lightly flavored citrus waters. I ordered shrimp linguine and my guest ordered a hamburger. Another group of four was sat at the table behind ours and they were criticizing the wine selections and taste because the bottle had been opened already and lost flavor. It took a while to get refills on our waters. Once we got our food my guest wanted ranch for the fries but the waiter took off before we could ask for anything. She said the burger tasted like it was previously frozen. My salad had wilted lettuce, but it is likely due to the off season. While I found my meal had a lot of shrimp, I was not a fan of the sauce used. The waitress brought us our check before I was fully finished which I never appreciate. Overall the experience was fine. That's all, fine. Would probably go to other nearby restaurants if we returned to the area.

Arrived in Bandon kind of late on a Monday, but luckily this place was still open just before 8 p.m. Food was good, service was OK. Scallop pasta was pretty good overall, clam chowder was good but not great. Fish tacos were also very good. Good overall experience, just not great.

I've lived in Bandon for a while now and my biggest regret is having overlooked this place for so long. The portions were absolutely perfect and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Our server was absolutely stellar and attentive, but not overly attentive. The food was absolutely divine and the atmosphere was perfect as the setting sun reflected off the harbor. The cranberry bread they make in house is to die for. Great experience. My 12 year old said, "Now I'm afraid to brush my teeth because I want this taste in my mouth forever." (he had the poached salmon with mango salsa)
