I have Koya on my list for a while and finally dined there. It was such a great experience! We were able to sit right away at the sushi bar. The miso soup to start is very refreshing. Toro Party and Nigiri are so fresh. I love the thick cut they do on the sashimi. I Would definitely recommend and come back.

I have been to quite a few Japanese restaurants in the area and after my visit to Koya, my top three rankings have changed. I like the authenticity and the simplicity of this eatery. As you walk in, you get a sense of a true Japanese sushi restaurant. It's also not only about the ambiance alone; the food is also great. The menu is well organized and innovative. There are original dishes I haven't seen elsewhere. One such dish was Tuna Don, that I loved. It is tuna served over a bed of sushi rice accompanied by eggs, special wasabi sauce and grated radish. I loved its presentation as well as its taste and good portion size. I usually get Edamame beans as a starter and did the same here. The difference was it had a generous amount of sea salt sprinkled over it which truly did justice to this otherwise bland dish. Bento box was also tasty and had great portions The tempura in it was well fried but not greasy or soggy. Most restaurants cannot get that right for some reason but Koya did a good job. I also loved the smokiness of the chicken teriyaki, which again is an element most restaurants fail to capture Great job again Koya! Sals in the bento box was well dressed and tasty. Salad is also overlooked in other places so this was a pleasant surprise for me at Koya! Unfortunately, after indulging myself with so much food, I had no room for dessert, which I am saving for my next visit! (Stay tuned for my update later!) The service staff was very attentive from the moment I set foot in the restaurant to when I walked out. Service was also fast. Another thing I noticed is even though the space is not large, we had two great waitresses looking after us - a party of three! This truly elevated the customer experience; something you do not see in most restaurants these days unfortunately. If you are into Japanese sushi and have not visited Koya yet, just swing by at some point. Your top three may also change after your visit! 😉

Parking: This is a popular spot so you may need to drive around a bit to find parking.

Kid-friendliness: Good for kids too. Place is well lit and colorful. Staff is also very attentive.

I recently threw a milestone birthday party for my husband, and ordered platters from Koya Sushi, and I'm so glad that I did! Our guests absolutely loved the quality and freshness of all of their sushi, which included sashimi, nigiri and specialty rolls. We were also pleased with the surprise that they also included miso soup with our order. It was a lovely display of food, prepared by the most friendly people!

Lovely, friendly staff, absolutely exquisite sushi. The sunomono and other salad portions are probably enough for two. Simple, relaxed setting, food is beautifully presented. This has become our favorite sushi spot, and from what our table neighbors said, that's pretty common.

Definitely recommend the chef's nigiri selection.

One of the best sushi spots in the Portland area.

The rolls, bento boxes, appetizers... everything really, have such a beautiful presentation. There is a lot of effort that goes into each thing that comes out. i rarely have anything I don't enjoy.

Price might be a bit high for some, but the quality, quantity and presentation of the food is well worth it. And the staff are always pleasant!

I asked the server which ramen she recommended and without hesitation, she said the “Tonkotsu Ramen”. When it came, it was very watery and lacked flavor. When she asked me if I liked it, I directly told her no. She completely ignored me and asked if I wanted a to-go box or not which I found extremely rude, especially since it was barely eaten.

Hands down the best sushi I’ve had to far in the PDX area. Not even a contest. We got salads, rolls, baked mussels (my FAVORITE thing here), the shogun sushi tower as shown in photos is to LIVE for. We got absolutely mesmerizingly lost in every single bite of this meal. The rolls are absolutely melty and decadent. 10000 stars. ✨

Koya has been on my list for a while, so when two of my very good foodie friends recommended we meet here for dinner, I was all in. They raved how good it was the last time they came here and were craving more. Now I really had to see for myself.

The restaurant is located right in the middle of downtown beaverton. It is located right across from Afuri and is nestled in the area of a lot of restaurants. This area has really blossomed with some good restaurants, and Koya can officially be added to the list of highly recommended eats.

Parking wasn't too bad. I was able to get free street parking, but there is a paid parking lot right by the restaurant just in case. I know this area can get pretty jammed during peak season, so plan accordingly.

The restaurant itself is fairly small. There are a few tables by some windows looking out to the square, a few larger tables that seat groups of 4, the sushi bar. I fortunately got there early and was able to grab a larger table for my friends and I.

Service here is excellent, but where Koya really shines is the quality of the food and the portion sizes. My friend ordered the Chicken Katsu bento and it was massive. They gave her a full size spicy tuna roll, a generous portion of tempura and a stack of chicken. Oh, it also came with miso soup too. It easily could feed 2 people. My chirashi bowl was delicious and had a good ratio of fish to rice. I would also highly recommend checking out the appetizers. We got the gyoza and deep fried squid. Both were excellent.

Overall the food here is tasty and generous. With all the shrinkflation going on out there Koya is one of the few establishments that gives an excellent value for your money. I would highly recommend you stop in here if your are looking for authentic japanese food on the West side.

I’ve heard great things about this place and finally got the chance to go. It was awesome. We had a couple of their signature rolls and their 10 nigiri. The fish was so fresh and flavorful and their presentation was beautiful. Easily makes it into my top 3 sushi places in the Portland area.

I've been to Japan twice, last time 10 months ago. This place is up there with the best. Really.
