McMenamins Pub at Old St. Francis School

Kind of a let down to be honest, we chose to spend our date night with mcminamins and got home honestly regretting it. It wasn't any one thing just everything left me really wishing that I hadn't gone. Its an expensive bill I spend 88 dollars for 2 but thats ok we had a drink, a side and an entree each. Spinach dip was great as always, the burgers came and it really went down hill. My girlfriends burger had grilled onions on it, we found that the onions were burned badly, but who doesnt like some charcoal crunch we wrote it off as a busy night in the kitchen. The waitress was nice and friendly no problems with her, but the kitchen mixed up my girlfriends and I's order im not picky but she is so it was a little stressful to have them take it back, play the shell game with out burgers then bring them back in the correct combination. But it went really south after starting to eat, she was mildly unenthusiastic with her offering, but about half way through I had to stop, settle my bill and leave, holding back puke we cut it short. I'm not sure what it was but that food made me so nauseous. It looked cooked right, smelled right tasted fine, but it was not sitting right. I'm still chalking it up to a bad night but I wont be in any hurry to return. They sadly almost got their burger back, just wish I could get my money back.

Bavarian chicken sandwich on their special menu was actually best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had at a restaurant

The unique lighting of the exterior and interior is what drew us in on New Years Day. However, the hostess was very cold and had an arrogant vibe. She was under dressed for her role as a greeter and just seemed like she couldn’t bother and stuck us in a small crowded dark room at a tiny table by freezing cold windows. It was not the restaurant vibe I thought we’d have when we walked in. I get it was crowded so I asked if we could wait for a booth especially with my husband’s bad back and a claustrophobic feeling in this tiny room where they put families with crying babies. She dismissed me with an uncaring “no”.
It was so dark we had to use our phones to see the menu.
Our waiter was a nice man. The salmon was good but they forgot the beure blanc sauce, bread and butter and gave me the wrong veggies. My husband’s was decent.
All in all it wasn’t a great experience but it was mainly the rudeness of the young skinny tomboy-ish dresses hostess who was so arrogant and cold. Not the right profession for her. The building and lighting is gorgeous.

McMenamins is always a good time! I’ve never stayed at the hotel, but the bars are so much fun and the soaking pool is a really nice experience. Last night while I was there with some friends, Jeff gave us an awesome tour of the secret rooms after my friends told him I’d never seen them. Then he took us up to the broom closet (sounds inappropriate, but is not) and showed us a video of suspected paranormal activity at the hotel! I choose to believe 👻

Jeff was super cool and it was really nice of him to take time out of a busy Saturday night to show us around

Cool spot, amazing atmosphere. Food was pretty darn good, had the little bavaria chicken sandwich and it is definitely worth a try. Clam chowder was surprisingly good.

I have always loved mcmenamins for years. Go to Portland go to Salem, go to Corvallis or bend.
Some places stand out more than others.Because of their live music, they have on the weekends.

The overall experience was exactly what you'd expect from a healthy mcmenamins! High energy and happy waiters, very attentive and very helpful in deciding what to eat. Everything came relatively quickly and the food was really good. The fries are delicious and so we're the Burgers. My wife enjoyed a trippy tiger as well which was a treat for her.

4 stars for the food is for the reason of quality control, after the pandemic they stopped making some things in house like the pretzel sticks, though they were delicious, mcmenamins is known for their great pretzels according to my wife so it's suffice to say that was a bit unfortunate and we hope their standards are raised back to pre-covid.

I love McMenamins and go all the time. Whether it's to eat their amazing food or to watch a movie for a fraction of the cost of a theater. You can't beat $10 for a movie ticket!!
