Fish and chips are poor - heavy and lack flavor. The Beef Tartare as well lacked flavor depth.
1st time dining here and will definitely return. The food was amazing especially the daily bread special. Cody the bartender and our server was exceptional.
This is our 3rd time and the service was extremely slow! It took 2 hours for 2 people to have a 1 salad, 1 entree and 1 dessert. Waited 45 minutes between salad and entree. We were told kitchen backed up, Halibut was ‘resting' etc. Our server would disappear. In other restaurants they may comp you a dessert to make up for slow service. They didn't.
We had an amazing experience. ..:the hamburger rocked and the steak Frites delicious and tender ! Our server was fun and very knowledgeable .
The food was okay at best, and wasn't worth the price. Our fish was overcooked to the point of becoming chewy and dry. The server was knowledgeable, but very pushy. He stopped by the table over 3 times in the first 10 minutes pressuring us to order. The restaurant wasn't even half full, and he constantly tried to upsell. We had multiple plates that were dirty, and the glare off the sunshades was intense. The chairs were also very narrow, even for someone with an average build.
Ambience, impeccable service, quality of food, ample proportions, presentation are all the words that applied to our dinner experience at Hook & Plow. Salads are inventive and provide flexibility to add variety of proteins for extra charge. Caution : ahi poke appetizer, while composed of good grade ahi really cannot be called poke containing just mushed avocado and served with weird crackers? All that said, we going back there for dinner tonight!
My wife ordered the ground lamb which was fantastic. I ordered the fish and chips based on how delicious they were the previous visit, but this time they merely ok, perhaps cooked a little too long. The noise level is tolerable, but pretty brassy.
Fantastic experience. The food was delicious. Great little happy hour menu. Love that there are mocktail options. Excellent service from Braden on 6/26.
Very nice dining experience we arrived late, but our table was ready. I had a delicious hamburger with blue cheese onions and a very tasty salad. Husband had fish and chips, which were also very good. His mock tail piña colada left lots to be desired, but my wine was very good. Service was friendly and fun. Be sure to check out all three bathrooms just trust me they were very interesting. Would recommend this restaurant for family and friends. Just a little loud for two old people.
My first trip to Hook & Plow and I will definitely be back! The steak tartar was the best I've had since Paris, and our server Taylor was great!

It's actually a really sad story. I took my aunt and uncle there for Father's Day. The server was wonderful and the drinks were tasty. I really enjoyed our appetizer which was their rosemary pepper jack bread and butter along with the peach and burrata salad that we all shared. Because this was so good we were really looking forward to our dinner. My aunt even mentioned to the server that she does not like her halibut overcooked. But unfortunately, when dinner came, which was the fish of the day, halibut, you could tell, even just from the outside that it was dry. And I had the shrimp carbonara, which looked amazing but had so much pepper in it that it made my mouth hot. After my aunt and uncle complained about their fish, the server was gracious enough to give us 25% off on their meals. I didn't have the heart to tell her that mine was just as bad. We did finish it off with Desert, which was again tasty. But for $300 I can't imagine giving them another try.
We had amazing service here! The waitress was kind, friendly, hospitable, and great with our big bachelorette group. The food was delicious as well. The martinis got good reviews from our group! Also a close walk to drinks at the Hawkeye and huckleberry across the street. It worked out great!
Great service, great food and great ambiance! Hook and Plow is one of our favorite restaurants in Bend!
First time. Enjoyed the menu selection. Had the halloumi “fries” appetizer and short rib as main course...appreciated that the dinner plates had sufficient sides already paired and included. Nice selections of wines and spirits as well, with nice craft cocktail selection. All plates and drinks were prepared well and had great flavor profiles. Will definitely return for evenings when I'm wanting something a little more upscale.
I think I may have said this before but for what it's worth, I find the tuna poke under seasoned. ..I could barely detect sesame oil/seeds, soy sauce, pepper or any other flavors Also the house Pinot Gris is always “fizzy” which although I don't really mind, it's the only restaurant where I have ever encountered this. Seems odd.
