Ecola Seafood Restaurant & Market/Cannon Beach Seafood

This was my second time visiting Ecola Seafood, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations.

Overall, I don’t feel the portion sizes or quality justify the price. I initially asked to substitute the fries that came with my meal for coleslaw. I was charged an extra dollar for the substitution, but the coleslaw portion I received was only a small to-go container which was significantly less than the amount of fries included with the meal.

After paying and seeing the portion size, I decided I would rather have the fries instead and was willing to pay the additional cost for the coleslaw since I had already handled the container. However, I was told I would need to pay the full $5.99 price for an additional order of fries rather than just the price difference. When I asked if I could simply pay the difference, I was told that wasn’t possible.

To avoid paying for both sides, I requested that my order be canceled and reordered so I could receive the fries that normally come with the meal and purchase the coleslaw as an additional side instead. While the staff accommodated the request, the situation felt unnecessarily complicated and left a poor impression.

As for the food, the fish batter lacked the crispness I was expecting. The clam chowder was good.

Ecola Seafood was recommended by many people when I mentioned my trip into Cannon Beach. It did not disappoint, some of the best fish and chips I’ve had.

Best fish and chips I've had in the PNW. I usually get Halibut. Also, they gave me a wrong order, I explained my correct order, and they easily fixed it. I go here almost every time I come to Cannon Beach :)

Food was delicious. I had the fish and chips with halibut. I also had the clam chowder. 10/10

My wife and I have been driving down the West Coast, Oregon and California. one of the things we've been doing on our trip is trying the seafood market restaurants. We are from salt lake City so you don't get a lot of fresh seafood. We stopped at ecola seafood restaurant and market when we were passing through Cannon Beach. We got the captain's platter. It was basically fish and chips with cod, salmon, oysters, prawns and scallops. We also got the ceviche from the counter. As we were leaving then we got a piece of smoked peppered salmon. I don't normally leave descriptive reviews on restaurants but I felt like I needed to for this one. This was about 4 days ago. And this restaurant experience has stuck with my wife and I on our entire drive down the coast. We are in Monterey Bay now and we still have not had a seafood experience to match what we had and what we experienced at Ecola. It was without a doubt the best fish and chips that we have ever had. And the smoked salmon has ruined all other smoked salmon for us. We are very big fans of smoked salmon and we've already had it twice more on this trip. Neither one has come close to how good the smoked salmon is at this restaurant. Salmon isn't normally used for fish and chips, but my wife doesn't really like oysters so they let us substitute the fried oysters for another piece of salmon and this salmon was incredible. The cod was very light, very flaky. The breading was insanely good. Like said before. We are from salt lake so we don't really get a lot of fresh seafood, but as we've been driving down the coast we've been trying to get something that could come close to what we experienced and it has not happened yet. The atmosphere was also really good. while we were eating, quietly playing on a TV screen on the wall was a slideshow of the staff on the fishing boat. Some pictures of family, some pictures of some of the fishermen as small children and then as adults working on the fishing boats. And there was another TV with a something else. Some kind of a sporting event. We will remember this restaurant as one of the top seafood restaurants that we have ever been to and we very much appreciate our experience.

Best seafood I have ever had. Tasted the unique salmon rather than cod! Best ever. Mind you I have tried Magpies of north England!

I’m in charge of dining options during our family road trip to Oregon coast.

This place did not disappoint. We very much enjoyed our food here. My daughter not liking clam chowder finished it off after my husband encouraged to give it a try.

Kids ordered cheese burger. Not bad!

Me and hubby ordered the halibut fish and chips, the seafood boat with shrimps and crab, and a small cup of clam chowder.

The clam chowder was really good. We had to order a second cup cuz our daughter ended up taking ours! The halibut fish was also delicious and very fresh.The batter is nice, thin and crispy. When you eat it, you can actually taste the fish and not end up with a mouth full of batter like most other places. The seafood boat was nice and fresh.

It’s a not a full service restaurant. you can order at the counter or scan one of their QR codes at the dining table and order on your mobile device then pick up your food at the counter when they call your number.

We left with our bellies full and happy. Definitely a place you should not skip!

Food is fantastic. Halibut fish & chips and the crab were both excellent.

Service is basically non-existent - you pick up your own food and clean up after yourself, most tables were dirty. Hard to justify the tip screen when you're paying higher-end prices to do everything yourself.

I love this informal Cannon Beach dining institution! I’ve been coming here for many years. Delicious, fresh seafood with good value for the quality. Order at the counter, take a number, and choose from indoor or outdoor, covered seating, upstairs or ground floor (a restroom plus inside and outdoor seating on each floor). They specialize in traditional fish and chips (battered and deep-fried, English pub style) with the seafood cooked to perfection. I think you can choose to have a different cooking style, but we didn’t, and I don’t recall if it was an option. There are choices of portion size, and even the smaller one is generous. We ordered 6 fried oysters and both got 7, 3 pieces of salmon and got 4 (and one was very big, so basically 5) and 4 generous pieces of halibut. The only small disappointment was the lack of malt vinegar (though my partner didn’t go so far as to ask the staff about this)

The only vegetable is cole slaw, and it is a fine example of the genre, though I realize personal taste in slaw varies widely. This is light and simple, with succulent, crisp cabbage, not sharp, with perhaps a hint of sweetness. Not swimming in dressing. Healthy, but not too healthy!

Pet-friendly too. Two parties with well-behaved small dogs ate near us on the upper outside deck.

I also appreciated the sink on the upper floor for self-service water and handwashing.

May there continue to be sufficient access to delicious, bountiful, reasonably priced local seafood so this restaurant can continue to prosper!

This place is always a hit when I go. The seafood is fresh and delicious!

Amazing chowder, some of the best fish and chips I've had. Shrimp and crab boat is great, try the shrimp sauce. Grilled salmon was delicious. Great place to eat.
