My fiancé made reservations for my birthday in September. She made sure to call a month early and ask for some special things. She asked them to reserve a table in an intimate/romantic location and to please have mushroom soup as it was one of my favorites from prior visits to this restaurant. MS. Newman was the one that took the reservation and said that was not a problem.We arrived for my birthday dinner and were sat at a table in the middle of the room (not intimate/romantic) and there seemed to be an issue getting mushroom soup that we asked for. Fortunately, they agreed to make it. I couldn't help but notice that everyone asked for the mushroom soup. It was the worst mushroom soup I have ever had and not at all like previous visits. We ordered the prawns for both of us. They were unremarkable. I had wine, which was good. As time came for desert, we ordered two which were good. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't offer a free dessert for my birthday but not everyone does. The bill plus tip came to $190.Lastly, after leaving and getting home to Seaside, we both had very upset stomachs. Perhaps the prawns were not cleaned properly (deveined)? I don't know but it took us days to feel normal again. As a result, this used to be our special occasion place but we won't be going back. We didn't get what we asked for and it ruined what could have been a special evening.

The service is always exceptional and ambiance is nice at Newman's. It is a little tight but still has an intimate feel with dim lighting and nice music playing in the background. With that said Newman's has never been a cheap place to eat but it is one of the better restaurants on the north coast.

This place used to be great!! We would look forward to it every year. We have come here for over 15years. What a disappointment the new so called chef is. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our food as a table of 6 came in while we eating our salads. They received their entree before we did. We finally received our food that was made with so much vinegar and had raw potatoes and the lamb was raw also. So tough and didn’t fall of the bone. The shrimp scampi was not scampi. It had no butter or wine. It was a bunch of raw olive oil poured on overcooked shrimp and a so called pesto - Gordon Ramsey would spit this food out.We loved the desert and that was the only good food.
Went on December 28, 2022. It was a first date. An intimate venue in the main dining area of the house. He brought an incredible bottle of red wine L'Hermitage 2017 and we paid the $25 corkage fee and we went with the prix fixe menu. He had the lamb, I had the duck; both were delicious, and the greens were perfect. Great thing about dining here or you can simply walk out head towards the beach a couple hundred feet away and enjoy an evening stroll to help with digestion.

We had a sibling reunion here. Five siblings and five spouses. We had great help putting it together and had the upstairs to ourselves. It was cozy, fun, great food and great service. A very special evening!

Booked this quaint restaurant for my son's birthday because they had rack of lamb on menu - his favorite. It was delicious. I was very happy to discover their Prix-fix 3 course dinner was duck! The salad was huge and delightful. The duck was ok by the polenta with Foie Gras took the dish to incredible. Dessert was divine - cheese cake that hat been bruléed. Service was excellent as was the ambiance.
