Former employee. Worked here for a year from mid 2021 to mid-2022. I was let go without warning, after asking why, was told the company was too small and had to cut down. Come to find out that they were planning to let me go based on my ethnicity. I had to deal with broken-down vans, disgusting environments that bread should not be made at, and worthless managers and employees who never took responsibility. They will blame you despite telling you to do something, harass you if the large white baker lady/thing complains about you, and leave you for hours when there falling apart vans break. They had me handle bread knowing well I had no food handler card! I brought this to the managers attention multiple times and was told they would take care of it. Unsanitary work area. Flys, bugs, and other critters linger around the dough all night and day.Contact the health inspector if you can. Multiple employees have fainted at this "bakery."

Their bread used to be amazing (pre-Covid) now it's Meh. The Kalamata Olive used to be a wonderful orchestra of rich flavors of earty olive, hearty grain and salt. Now it's like plain white bread with random tiny bits of olive. I'll be looking to other bakeries and TJs for real Kalamata Olive bread.

Horrible boss/ owner leaves employees alone at night with no ability to contact him in case of emergency. Is unprofessional in ways of termination (a Facebook message), too chicken for in person, with no talking to the employees to see the circumstances, especially with multiple calls and texts for questions being unanswered. Not worth a one star but I can’t give a zero.

I don't know about the company.. but the bread is amazing!

They seem not to care about their employees and new people they are interviewing. The quality of the bread is not worth the price, If you are getting bread that is that expensive then it should be high quality bread. Also want to mention that it's difficult to find this place, It's basically in an ally where it seems like you would get murdered in, I couldn't see the sign from the street it was on. If you want people to find the store then put out a sign that people can see.

Not a local bakery. Owners live out of state. Not family orientated either. Requires its workers to be on-call 24/7, demoted people who aren't available to be available at all hours.... At the same time, Unwilling to compensate employees for requiring them to be on-call. Does not provide benefits to its employees either. Not a community or family friendly business.

If you loved Big River in the old days, we'll those days have passed. Walking in to see the famed dessert case completely empty was disheartening. New owners are destroying what once was so good.

I don't think the new owners treat their staff very well. We had a group reservation on a Sunday at 6:30, and there were only two servers for the entire building? They were rushing around as fast as they could, but could never quite keep up, and consequently our service was much slower than necessary. We asked the poor guy who had our table what was up, and he said the new manager refused to have more than two people, even if it's busy. Literally, one more person would have made a big difference. The food was great, and the service we DID receive was great, under the circumstances.

I'm sure they are great at Brewing Beer, but they are terrible at managing a restaurant. With 6:30 reservations and a OSU Symphony show at 8, we were not served until 8pm. We complained at 7:15 and at 7:30 were told they had a large group upstairs and only can put so much on a grill at a time. Service was invisible as they had several open booths and tables. Food is average, but come on, a hour and a half to receive our average food. Highly recommend you go to the Hwy 34 to get beer and avoid the Big River venue!

Great sourdough bread without preservatives or additives so it needs to be purchased and used fresh. This bread is a favorite of my family and doesn't trigger migraines (always a good thing).

My family and I dropped in here for the first time, yesterday, while enjoying the 4th of July festival. There weren't many other diners when we were there, but several arriving as we left. We chose to sit inside and enjoy the vibe of Big River. The Caesar salad is devine, as is the ginger/peach iced tea. Our wait staff was wonderful. She did a great job at humoring our 10 year old. The art piece I faced is awesome, and after doing some research, I am under the impression that it was painted by the owner herself. I took a pic of it because I love it so much!

It's been years since I've been here. Won't go again!! Wait was over an hour for any food. bread was awful but we ate it out of boredom. Food was terrible. Risotto taste stale and undercooked, shells in crab pasta, short ribs were worst I've ever had. Wait staff was nice. Wish we would have gone to Pastini.

This is not a local business. It is run by a family in Texas. If you value local business and our community do not do business here.
